I really preferred the novel instead of horrible tactics the used exoskeletons with jump jets and on the bounce they drop bombs the movie is only really shaves the same basic idea of the federation and they even mess that up

This is kinda weird on plendathu it took like a group of 20 people to kill one bug and in that cave where the brain bug is only 4 people took out like 50 or 60 bugs.

The other bugs in the cave had no room to attack them from all sides, in the open desert the bugs were defending their territory outmanuvering the M.I. Preserving the Brain Bug was priority for the bugs too in the cave, so they took no action until it had left the area. It seems the Federal Military rushed into war not properly prepared to faced armored bugs.

I like the book because it's more intellectual, but this film is a decent action flick and I like how it satires jingoism and fascism. Citizen/Soldier is a great song and fits it, in an ironic sort of way.

Also, watching this film again, the way the Plasma Bug came out of the ground reminds me of the Corpsers from Gears of War (yeah, I know ST came out first, but I'm just saying)

The idea that a civilization that could travel faster than light is still sending in troops that are roughly the same in defensive and offensive ability as todays soldiers, is ridiculous. They ruined the movie by going away from the book so much. This movie is trash. Never ending magazines in the rifles... LOL

i think the reasons for such tactics is purely to maintain population, and to keep the generations disfigured and to keep fear installed and so the government can still be legitimate.

I love this movie even though its so stupid cause they have weapons that fire over 400m as a effective range and yet they seem to allways be within 5M of the bugs if i was one of them id be back sniping in a nice little dugout and also their tatics have seem to have downgraded to the american civil war time form a blob/line and slowly advance towards the target use as many men as you have at your disposile and if its impossible task make it possible lol

it takes about 4 guys to take on one bug and the bugs can strike from below or drag you down so digging a hole dosent sound smart and all you can realy do is have as many people as possible to respond to any threat

@SgtMako That's kind of the point. The high-handed message is that they're grunts, disposable, and number in the billions. The Federation will happily use human wave tactics, just as the Bugs do, and has the advantage if only because they have better tech, can deploy on-world from orbit, and can bomb the crap out of the surface of a world from, again, orbit. The book is generally better about it, of course, since the movie is a very harsh critique of what the book advocated.

It is a parody of war movies. You know, the campy training scene where they play laser tag, everyone is excited about fighting the bugs, all of the propaganda, the last minute rescue by the transport ship, two soldiers single handedly taking down a bug the size of a small ship, the tough commander that threatens to shoot cowards, and finally drill sergeant Zim being the big hero that captures the brain bug at the very end soon after Rico escapes the bug tunnel with his highschool sweetheart.
