Both Hapkido from Korea(Founder Choi Yong Sool) & Aikido from Japan(Founder Ueshiba Morehei) originated from Daito Ryu Jiu Jitsu from Japan(Great Master Takeda Sokaku).Since aikido became popular in Japan, Choi called his art hapkido [written in Korean with the same characters as aikido] & mix it with TKD technique to make it into a competition sports.Aikido is prohibited(by the founder) into any competition & totally a self defence combat art of fighting, minimum but effective yet peaceful.
Anything can be useful in real life IF your "fighting intelligence" is high enough to assess the conditions of the combat, and you know your limitations and your strengths. "Fighting intelligence" can only be improved through experience of real fights. Any style is useful in real life as long as you know what the hell you are doing. What is more a lethal weapon, a gun or a rock? A rock can be a very lethal weapon in the hands of a pro baseball pitcher,& will always beat an unexperienced shooter.
i started aikido 2 moth ago and is amazing. you can learn a lot of techniques for self defense. you can hurt a lot . (believe me). jiu jutsu is better on ring and a little for self defense. i chose aikido cuz is pacific but deadly at the same time xD.
1st off awsome video but all u guys cant say hey karate vs judo who wins u cant do that cuz its the fighter not the style if u want 2 compare styles n see which is the best it falls down 2 which has the most tecquniques/realistic tecquniques(spelling) n if it falls down 2 that its either krav maga, sambo, hapkido, or kajukenbo
I don't know a lot about aikido and jujitsu, but I think the two martial arts are very very good for self defence, they have a diferents concepts of fight.
Id say aikido, yet jujitsu is a form of grappling and locking, aikido i find more,, practical, , but each art has its own advantages and disadvantages
there both really affective but its all about the fighter and how he uses it and sambo is better than both of them and almost the same type of fighting its throwing and grappling sambo is way more effective because the throws are more realistic and practical and the throws are ment to end with a submishion so once the guy has u in perfect executed throw u are probably ganna be submitted right when u touch the ground
Hello Enganese, It depends on what your looking for. Aikido derived from Jujitsu... For practicality I believe that Jujitsu is better as it covers more real life situations. If you love to be peaceful and not hurt anyone Aikido is the way to go.
I have taken both and then some... And I believe in practicality all the way but also believe that its up the the individual because YOU will be the one practicing and enjoying it. So go for what you like.
@enganese Aikido is much less aggressive and relys on the opponent giving you his hand. In real life scenario's, Jiu-Jitsu is more practical, HOWEVER.... It is not the STYLE that a fighter uses, but the FIGHTER His/herself. This is a fundamental lesson of Kung-Fu philosophy. Kung-Fu translated into english means "Dedication" . Whichever fighter has more dedication is the better fighter. He who gives up is less of a fighter.
@enganese depends on what you want from martial arts. aikido is better for self defense but jujitsu is better in the ring. I take aikido and its lots of fun.

@leovic1992 jujitsu is more axed on strengh and taking the initiative. in Aikido, you use the imbalance of your oppenent and defense.
