the sensorbar is not a sensor of any kind. it is just some IR-diodes that the IR-camera in the front of the controller uses to approximate the position of the screen (used for the mouse pointer on the wii). the bluetooth receiver is inside the wii.
So the sensor bar is actually not a sensor, but a strip of infared emmitters? I always thought that the wii-remote itself emitted an IR signal and the sensor bar somehow recieved where the controller was pointing. Now I understand how it works. TX for clearing this up.

the wiiremote doesn't use infrared for communication. it uses bluetooth.
