Oh my, Larry Hagman is so sexy! If I were Jeannie, I'd wish me and him married, and that episode"Djinn Djinn Go Home", his butt is so big and beefy! I love you Larry! xD
Love this show. I think some of the way he talks was inappropriate, but a lot of it was also very good for Jeanie's well being and is cool anyhow. Love this show, still see shows like it (DearS, Sora no otoshimono). Jeannie was awesome and so was the rest of the cast. It still inspires me a lot. Just amazing.
@wolfmankayldotcom I agree this show's concept was satanic(as opposed to Bewitched, which obviously was...). But WHY do YOU consider IDoJ satanic? Let me admit I have my share of guilty pleasures, of which IDoJ is one. The characters were so 'innocent' & likable. Hagman had this great way of laughing nervously and his screams for Jeanie's help were hilarious. Sorry, Wolfman, PLEASE respond.
Jeannie definitely does more or less what she wants to and it's often to Major Nelson's detriment, however unintentional it may be. Jeannie is not his slave or anything like it and if anything he has to do what she wishes.
"Guess What Happened On the Way To the Moon?" [10/2/65], 'Fangirl'. That's when Barbara was about five months pregnant, hence the extra veils around her costume (and the "bulkier" harem pants)..but still beautiful!
Exactly, 'lilly'- Jeannie could behave like a "spolied child" when she wanted to {as Barbara Eden once admitted, "I'm part child, myself"}, and sometimes had a child-like view of the modern world around her...
...so the exchange "Oh, I like it when you are forceful, Master!"/(Tony, somewhat modestly) "Sometimes you have to be" is a joke- and both of them KNOW it!
Also remember, in the pilot episode, Jeannie followed "Master" back to Cocoa Beach from the island he found her on, even after he told her she was "free". She loves him SO much, she's willing to "fulfill" her ancient obligation as a genie and "serve" him, even if he DOESN'T want her around. When he finds her at home, and tries to "wish'" her to vanish, she tells him, "Thou hast set me free. That means I am free to please thee, and I am going to please thee VERY MUCH..". She KNOWS what SHE wants!
The entire point of the series was (at least when Sidney Sheldon was writing it) that "the battle of the sexes" always exists...even if its between "master" and "genie". I don't think enough people realize that Jeannie usually never DOES what she's supposed to do as a "slave"- she's too independent and stubborn to "obey". She does what SHE thinks is best for herself and "Master"'s interests...even if it almost kills him, or gets him in trouble with NASA or whatever...
people who insist IDOJ is sexist should remember three things
1) Barbara Eden was the star of the show and Eden is a female by all accounts
2) Her character is omnipotent
3) The comedy of the show ensues from the fact that she pretty much does what she wants despite her "Masters" wishes. (In one episode she actually imprisons him because he wants to go out on a date)
Doesn't sound all that subservient when you think about it does it?
Jeannie's character was supposed to do as she told, since Major Nelson was her "master". But many times she didn't do as she was told. I recall her being threatened with a spanking in a couple of episodes, but never saw a scene involving corporal punishment. TV shows could get away with adult ladies being spanked back then.
@TheWitchWay not all guys are like that...

why feminism in the Western World? in the Middle East sure but in America...it appears men have less rights nowadays than women
nickwalco 1 year ago
@nickwalco i used to think that but apparently the average woman still makes less than the average man for the same job
it sucks to think that things like racism and sexism still exist even in america :(

Does anyone else notice that Major Nelson's voice gets a little bit deeper whenever he gets turned on or is very attracted to someone???

The good old days, back when men were men and women were pretty -- and weighed less than 300 pounds.

I don't think Tony's attitude was wrong. Jeanie has a very childlike outlook on life. Tony treated her like he would a child.
At least until he married her!

Just the way things were back then. This is just a reflection of the times.
Love the show, though
