just a simple observation. Peter did not pull out an essay simply because that was a momentous and prophetic experience, initiated by God Himself...he was merely responding. Later, Peter write letters, as did John and Paul. Consider this...they were intentional words and precepts written down --- they did not have YouTube. The written and spoken word work in concert, not in competition nor exclusivity to one another.

but do you use critical thinking when you decide this. Do you study science and accpt it like you do medicine, electronics and all the other man made things using scienctific principal. What if, just what if there is a higher power but mankind is fumbling around fighting about whos ancient fairtales to follow and obey. You don't regect god because you see through religious foolishness

Sobering thought. A great struggle for ALL preachers. God deliver us from using the gospel itself to exalt ourselves. Thanks for the reminder Pastor John.

I have just listened to 6 posts of J Piper and I have seldom heard such ''self absorbed'' preaching. You are reading an essay and would be lost without what you have written. On the day of Pentecost did Peter pull out an essay. Did Stephen read from a prepared speech....or Paul, could he not address kings without his notes?

Piper doesn't even answer emails because he is so absorbed by himself.

When I preach, I personally don't use notes at all, but many guys do. It's just a stylistic choice and it's about comfort level. To condemn a guy for that is just petty to the extreme.

He is describing himself and all the others like him. Some people are so blinded by these type of so called preachers ,with these kind of attitudes,you sir should be more humble :)cause god loves humle people,i used to attend church and i never liked these kind of agressive guys full of testasterones,I wonder if they are as agressive in bed as they are when they speak ^-^
