According to Albert Speer's biography, Hitler was furious about the climb and wanted the organizers shot because it diverted men from the fighting. But I figured the Nazis would also milk it for all the propaganda value it was worth. Neat video of a little-known historical incident. Must have been a welcome break for the climbers.
@MrRezz0 What's to be proud about ? 822nd Georgian battalion instead of dieing with the germans back stabbed them when the Soviets were coming and killed their former comrades to save their necks. Georgians are lowlifes.
@darkon112 first of all in 822 battalion was only 700-800 man and in all Georgian Legion was around 30.000. second in 822 battalion was lot of war prisoners of Georgian origin. they were soviet soldiers and there was many soviet agents. rebellion was led by soviet agent as Shalva Loladze. it was war and in war everything happens. 700.000 Georgians fought in Soviet army and around 30.000 in Wehrmacht. 400.000 Georgians died in ww2. over 11% of Georgian population.
@MrRezz0 Lol, foreign Legions of German Army was usually formed on a volunteer basis. And I say that they were lowlife's because they changed sides not once but twice, always going with the wind. They betrayed and butchered their german comrades in their sleep.. only at the end, when they thought that with their treacherous action they could buy their ticket to escape Stalin wrath ...but it didnt pay off because the germans gave them quick retribution. And rightly at that.
