Mr. Sheahan, Mr. Campbell, your music brings light to my heart in the midst of my depression. I hope somehow you can know how much peace you have given me today.
This is an incredible musician, completely unappreciated, IMHO, and deserving of much more credit than he gets. His violin and pennywhistle are beyond amazing!
Sometimes in life we have un-sung heroes and Mr Sheahen is defo 1, he played with the most distinguised voice you will hear in ronnie and simply in luke the best we will ever hear. he played as big a part as any been there from the start.
Believe it or not , John Sheahan is my wife's uncle..he played this piece in the church on our wedding day in 2002, he's a great guy, he also played the marino waltz for us too
I heard this song in Groningen too and I really liked it. It has a kinda... medieval ring to it. I've never been to St. Patrick's but I can imagine this song fitting the atmosphere quite nicely.
I can´t believe it... I first heard the Dubliners when I was eighteen and have loved their music ever since, and I´m well nigh sixty now, so they can´t be the same Dubliners, can they`*g*
Well .... 'the fiddler' (John Sheahan) and 'the banjoplayer' (Barney McKenna) are 'the oldest' Dubliner-members. They belong to the group since the early 60's ....
This guy is seriously underrated. It pisses me off that this guy (and the rest of the Dubliners, of course) gets little recognition while all kinds of utterly unimpressive singers (naming no names) get massive amounts of public adulation, money and airtime.
@mambtwae oh too true. as john told me " never put people on a pedistal" but my god thease men are gods walking with men. honest and skilled but never admit it. the real shame is they will only ever be truely loved when they pass, so to john, luke, ronnie, barney, ciearen, jim, sean. at then rest ,,slant`e
@mambtwae You are absolutely correct! I don't understand why in the world the Dubliners aren't more widely known than they are! Probably because they are such gentlemen!
Oh my goodness - never have I heard such a beautiful song!! I thought I had heard all of the Dubliners songs - but this one just takes my breath away! I'm just in awe of this man's talent! And what a way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day on Tuesday!! Thank you for posting all the wonderful music from the Dubliners. I just can't get enough!
Two years ago, when I made this video, was the first time I heard this song. I went twice when they were in Holland that year, the second time John invited me and dedicated this song to me and another woman, I felt soooo honored!
voelcsei, I am SO envious. I've been a huge fan of The Dubliners since 60's. Haven't seen them live for a few years, is Barney still performing with them?
Oh yes Barney is still performing. I saw them at Vicar Street on December 30th in Dublin. Best musical experience of my life. Barney performed 'I wish I had someone to love me' and 'Fiddler's Green' and of course his amazing reels.
Saw them yesterday in small town Uelzen in Lower Saxony, Germany. They were brilliant. This song brought the atmosphere of Saint Patrick´s to the audience. I heard it for the first time yesterday.
I absolutely love this song. If anyone out there knows what type of tin whistle John Sheahan uses and what key this song is in, it would be much appreciated. Gotta love the Dubs; I saw them on St. Patty's day, and they were nothing short of brilliant. Thank you for posting this masterpiece.
It's a Soprano D tin whistle ,branding should be a Overton whistle as John Sheahan is a friend of the well regarded and well known whistlemaker Bernard Overton
I play Overtons as well as they are really great in tone and handling ,but I play those of his partner Colin Goldie
I can proove about the songbook ,but just as a nice notice for you : he's playing it with classical ornamentation effects,so don't be depressed if the sound is not sheahan like.
But hope you enjoy playing it ,it's a lovely piece of music,I can truely say this Maestro influenced my life and my music.
Beautiful song! Thank you John Sheehan and Eammon Campbell! :-)
Thank you Dubliners! :-)
Thank you "witteroos" for posting this song. :-)

hands down my favourite composition of music ever, the whistle segment moves me every time, and compelled me to begin playing.

They played this song in Groningen yesterday... It's so beautiful!
John visited the Saint Patrick's Cathedral, and this is what he felt. He put his feelings in a song, and the result is this masterpiece.

they just do what they love to do: make music and entertain people. Kind set of lads if you ask me!

Very true. And good for them. It's just that I'd rather hear this on the radio than most of the hollering I have to put up with :).

Believe me, they get plenty of recognition. Everywhere they play it's sold out. I went from Denmark to Dublin last year to hear them. It's magic....
