Nice drumming! I got the PadKontrol and I love it but I got the NativeKontrol software to integrate it with Ableton Live and it makes this thing about a million times cooler ( and more functional ). I haven't touched the bundled KORG Scene software thing in a long time. Especially the beta of NativeKontrol pKC-Live is the bizness. You can use the touch pad to navigate your ableton clip grid and the samples get assigned to the pads on the fly as you move with the touchpad ( among other things ).
Follow up question... have you been able to incorporate the XY pad in a natural way to date? Most uses I've heard are pretty mechanical, though I can imagine freeing up some finger room with a ride or hi hat sequence via note repeat... though I can't grok sparing a finger to vary it... maybe the little finger on the side... ?
@KnowKnot No, I haven't tried to integrate the XY pad very much. It does sound very good though. Superior has such cool extra samples too; like the Ruffs, Rolls, Cresendos and FX sounds, but the problem is there's no room to assign them and still keep the stuff you hit more often. A piano keyboard is the only thing that can address all the articulations, but playing percussion on a piano really sucks IMHO.
@KnowKnot Thanks, that's a huge compliment! Since your fingers don't rebound off the pads like a stick on a drumhead does, there's just certain sounds which aren't very easy to perform in real time. For fast stuff I play a triplet with two fingers on my left hand and one on my right. The touch pad on the PadKontrol is pretty cool and with practice I suppose it could be incorporated into live playing. I may do another video on this if I'm feeling ambitious.
I have one of these. The usability, and the playability are amazing! My day isn't complete unless I bang on it for awhile. Yes, I agree, it would be even better if they came out with a model that had 32 pads, 'cause I also tune it to scales and use it for keyboard parts :)

Griefness. Beautiful, musical, technically accomplished. Amazing really.
Of all the crap out there you are one of the only 2 guys I've heard that can play this kind of unit like an instrument with a soul.
Any chance you could post some brief thing on how you approach rolls/flams (the hard-to-perform-naturally-and-realistically-on-a-machine stuff)???
Really good work. Respect 'til the doors pop. Seriously.
