Somehow I don't think anyone would go this far to play a joke. That doesn't seem logical in the least. It must've taken years (even with dozens of men) to construct that. "...tons of coconut fibers...2000 miles away". It would've taken several years then just to sail back and forth with it all -not to mention all the other work! Question is, if the pirate theory is right, how would THEY have reclaimed it? They would've run into the same problems that we are.

The good looking guy at 4:30 is trying to say it can't be a natural phenomenon because they found wood and coconut fiber, but both of that could be explained by a sinkhole.

In fact, finding trees and wood in a horizontal position would be EXPECTED from a natural sinkhole, as material drawn down by a solution cave collapse. He says it isn't glacial ice - well, that might sound science-y, but nobody expected to find something from the last glacial period.

This was not done by any Pirate--remember seeing this by Spock as a kid ok Lenard Nemoy --SPOCK to me....Now finding out all about The Freemasons and the construction of Washington DC...and how they were diggin under the Temple of Solomon..my guess The Ark of Teh covenant..thats worth all this effort.

There is only one reason i think someone would bury very valuable treasure in a place like this. If they couldn't take it with them for whatever reason planned to come back at some point. Seems an amazing amount of effort though even if they did plan on coming back. i think the theory that it was Pirates is plausible. Crew can be anywhere from several dozen up to 100. that would be enough men to build the pit.

Here is a thought: Why on EARTH would someone bury a treasure? Think about it. If you had a million or more dollars, burying it in the ground would be the LAST thing you'd want to do. Surely this hole wasn't prepared by one man, so that means he had several men all working together to bury LOTS of money. It would have to be an EXTREMELY good reason to convince several men to put money in the ground rather than run off with it themselves. It is most likely a very sick joke.

I've read several books about The Money Pit including one by D'Arcy O'connor. very interesting mystery that is still unsolved to this day. I wonder if there is anything buried there?

umm hasnt anyone thought that maybe we're not supposed to find this treasure? what if someone hundreds of years ago found something really bad...and knew that it shouldnt really be exposed to the world and somehow buried it in a remote island where no one would ever find it.

the whole mechanism with the sea kinda tells you that it's been designed so that no one should ever find it. no one can drain the whole sea...

i would not step on that island...
