I'm a fan of Anna Netrebko. I like this interpretation, but I think her voice here is a bit more metallic than it really is. I prefer her with hervoice more opaque.

I am not a fan of Netrebko, though I think she is quite beautiful and has a decent stage presence at times, but I have to eat my words and say this is good. Not GREAT, but quite good. Brava.
Netrebko has a good stage presence and some acting skills. And of course beautiful, for some. Voice? Its big but no great shakes. I like silvery voices in Bel Canto roles--not this deep tone stuff. To put it in reverse, it'd be like if a coloratura tried to do Wagner--why do it? Torture the audience? Wreck your voice? I wouldn't go out of my way to see Netrebko in this---Don Carlo, Forza? Maybe.

@tsena6 Her middle voice evokes pathos. I don't like a lot of her work but she definitely made me cry with this very simple and yet heartfelt and simply beautiful singing.
This was in 2003!!! =Since that time she had a mutant piglet. She has gained weight. She has gotten un-attractive. She has cancelled the MET. She has gotten bad reviews. She is nothing more than a SOUBRETTE now!! Send her back to the farm to call the little piglets in for suckling.
It's not as heartbreaking as Callas or Moffo but she is a joy to watch here. The production is gorgeous and her acting more Violetta like than in Salzburg.

Yellow press? I doubt the likes of Serafin, de Sabata, Porter, Steane, Blyth, Kesting, Pavarotti, Fleming, Netrebko (!), Sutherland, Tebaldi ETC. ETC. are "Yellow Press". And as for being an adulteress.... Treb's hubby was married and had a child before abandoning his family for Treb. And I've seen many pictures of Callas, her legs never struck me as elephant like (Rather too thin) or hairy. She had edema in her legs which harmed her circulation. Hardly something to mock.

Arroyo had a clear clean top, although she was as placid and dull much of the time as Netrebko. Netrebko's top the night I heard her was pushed and coarse. A quality well suited to Gioconda but not Violetta. You don't know what "to lie" means. I stated an opinion, not an eternal truth.
