  • Rod The Mod wannabe

  • Me and my mate used to get really drunk and jam this out in our teenage years. Never gets old! Sign of a truly great song!

Love how all the 'punks' on here are so snobby about this song! Cracks me up!

  • It's about time someone posted this! Last time I heard it was in '78 while on vacation. A Scottish friend had taped it for me but I lost it. Although the version I listened had more edge to it....nice all the same to hear it again. Thanks!

  • I remember this - it was fun (and still is)!

  • pero que bonitoooooo!!!!

  • This was like punk-lite in the early days of punk crossing into the mainstream consciousness when the BBC was terrified of the real thing. Great pop record though reminding me of my best year at school.

  • @flaxonx3 - you're right - but I wouldn't drag Tonight into it. When Punk started the Whistle test would feature bands like Talking Heads, Devo, Dire Straits etc - they took a hell of a lot of time to actually feature punk bands - Chelsea, Tha Adverts, The Damned - all these bands should have been on in 1977 - not 79. I think Tonight were very energetic and fitted in with what was going on at the time really well.

  • Good fun. Just the way we liked it in the 70's.

  • I loved this tune reminds of school, music then was exciting, new stuff out all the time, so much energy

  • Guitarist is one of my lecturers at the moment. xD

He's certainly greyer! Still nutty though.

  • Hey!!! I'm highly educated and very, very clean and I LOVE this song. :D

  • No talent, no style, no musicianship.

Ideal noise for the uneducated and the unwashed.

  • @pooperscoopr69

    They'll go a long way...

  • The guy playing the rickenbacker was a old tutor of mine at uni. Nice one Phil, still putting that beauty to good work I hope!

  • just received album this morning... absoloutly fantastic what an album!!

  • My Dad is the bass player here, theres a new album being released this september available from amazon hope you all enjoy it!!

    Aaron

  • @aaronstroth I bought the CD last week. Brilliant to hear the songs after all these years.

  • great song,still have the original 45

  • Agreed. The flip "stroll on by" was just as good i thought.

  • I saw Russell (the bass player) with Wilko Johnson in February 1981 at Durham University - he was brilliant.

I knew he'd been in Tonight at the time and I thought he fitted the Wilko gig perfectly.

He moved with Wilko but didn't get in his way - sort of moved on the right hand side and left Wilko to move the rest of the stage.

I saw Wilko a couple of years later (and a lot of times after that) - Norman Watt Roy had replaced Russell and it was never as good.

  • R they still around? Must be gettingon if this was 30yrs ago?

  • They've just got back together apparently! -

They split up at the end of 1978 and the album they recorded is STILL unreleased!

  • they havent got back together cos i wrk for the lead singer (chris turner) we r in a thearter company called london bus (look it up!)

  • I know Russ, he still plays in Southend in a few bands including The Phil Burdett Group..

  • Lovin yer work Chambon bravo. and as for that guitar wow!
