This was a really bad pilot but it did contain one great inside joke: when villain Chuck Connors empties a pistol in an unsuccessful attempt to shoot the Steel Collar Man, he realizes that he needs a bigger gun. He raises the trunk of his car's hood to reveal an arsenal. He reaches into the trunk and pulls out... The Rifleman's Rifle. As the soundtrack plays that western's theme song, Connors cocks the rifle by swinging it in a circle - just as he did in that series. Then he says "Nah".

"OTHERWORLD" was a mid-season replacement on CBS' 1984-'85 schedule, of which nine episodes (out of 13) aired. The network buried it on Saturdays at 8pm(et) from January through April. Don't count on Universal revivng THAT idea, either...unless NBC is so desperate for ANYTHING to grab that crucial 18-35 year old crowd their advertisers crave....
