His hand slipped off of the bar so quickly that unless he was in a power rack with the pins right above his throat (which is how I do my benches), there was no way they could prepare for that. That looked like 385 lbs he was benching. While the bar crashed on his left side for a sec, he'll probably come out fine. If the spotters weren't paying attention, he might be dead!

On the one hand, I agree, the spot sucked. However, his left hand lost it's grip REAL QUICKLY! A spot is designed to give that extra little effort if you can't lift a weight by yourself. But the way his hand slipped so quickly (not sure why it did), the spotter would have basically had to hold up the entire left side of the bar.
Personally, I do all of my benches in a squat rack. It's the best spotter in the world!
@B3rtM4n A spotter is not there to catch the weight if you slip. He's there to push you and to assist if you can't get the weights up. There's no spotter on the world who could hold the bar without taking weight off the lifter and then grip it and hold it within a random milisecond. Asshat.
@johnsonsparky Its not the spotters job to catch 380 pounds of free falling weight, they are there to assist the lifter in case they get stuck. Also if a single spotter touches the weight during the lift, the lift is automatically disqualified.
Benching (extremely) heavy is only for showing off. You get no positive results.

@B3rtM4n A spotter is not there to catch the weight if you slip. He's there to push you and to assist if you can't get the weights up. There's no spotter on the world who could hold the bar without taking weight off the lifter and then grip it and hold it within a random milisecond. Asshat.

@johnsonsparky Its not the spotters job to catch 380 pounds of free falling weight, they are there to assist the lifter in case they get stuck. Also if a single spotter touches the weight during the lift, the lift is automatically disqualified.
