thankyou!! for showing all sides of the netbooks. Its a shame that both pull air in from the bottom, but it looks like the asus 1000 has much smaller vents. I assume thats because they have better heat management. The MSI wind looked like it had _tons_ of venting on the bottom, which is a shame.
My bro lost a laptop because he was running it on his bed, and the sheets blocked the vents, thus overheating the computer.
I think the big battery for the asus actually helps, because it elevates.
The only bad thing about the white 901 is my keys get really grubby. The reason the plug pack turned into a brick is the plug pack is 9.5V @ 2.5A, the "brick" is 12V @ 3A.
With my 901 I get nearly 6 hours, and that is running a Huawei E169 #g modem, an MSI USB DVB TV tuner and an external Logitech laser mouse! (Yes, I video chat in the middle of nowhere!)
I love my 701 and my 901, the best money I've ever spent on a computer system. I don't mid the lack of bluetooth, but I miss 1394.
The right Shift key is awkwardly placed after the up arrow key, making it pretty much useless for touch-typists. Adding insult to injury, there is wasted, blank space between the up arrow button and the question mark key, where the Shift key should have been.
The Asus is better than the MSI for two main reasons. Firstly, build quality is much better. Secondly, what's the point of a small, portable device if the battery life is crap? The Asus has the 6 cell battery and can last up to 8 hours. MSI is more like 2.5 hours!
like 10 seconds it will take longer to turn it off then put another on in all it has it 2 clips not screws that you use it would take 4 to 5 second to do
Well the Wind is slightly smaller, and looks better, but the 1000H has better battery life, multitouch trackpad and 802.11n wireless. I'm going with the 1000H, mainly because of the trackpad.
They are pretty much the same...cept the ASUS has better attention to detail. ASUS all the way on this one! They run quiet and don't get too hot either. Plus I like the screen better.
Sorry about all the comments. The 1000 has Bluetooth built in. Which is awesome. And the larger SSD is awesome. Because there is no way I am buying a netbook with a normal Hard drive. I want something that is gonna boot up in seconds be small and easy to use. And soooo many people complain about the 901's keyboard. And I used one, idk which model it was, but it was 399, and the keyboard was really tiny. But its a tiny screen so its understandable. I am just lost, confused, and need assistance.
Like I said, I wanted the Eee PC because of how small it is, and how it could almost fit in a pretty large pocket. So I want something really small thats really easy to carry around. I was going to originally get the 8GB model with the 8.9 inch screen because its bigger than the 7 inch, but not huge. All the features I wanted from the HP Mini-note are in the 1000. But then I was just gonna buy the 901. But now I am confused and don't know what to get. How much is the 1000 anyway. That matters to
I am confused. I don't know which Eee PC I want to buy. I like the 1000, but the 901 is smaller in size, and the idea is to have a super portable netbook. Now, the bigger keyboard is awesome. Because I have been thinking about getting the mini note. Keep in mine, it doesn't have a SSD. I wanted it because the screen and 92% keyboard. Now the 1000 is out, with a much bigger SSD (40GB) compared to the 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20 GB ones. But that size difference between the 901 and 1000 is big. So IDK.
the SHIFT button on the newer version is in the most awkward place ever!! makes it impossible to use conveniently :(

I really love this Asus Eee PC 1000, it's just a shame about the price.
Here in the UK it's selling for around £360, quite a bit more expensive than others.
I might consider buying it from the US since everything seems so much cheaper out there.

Samsung new netbook FTW.
bubu469 3 years ago
Are you talking about the Samsung NC10?
I looked at that but it seems it only has a Windows XP version with a 160GB hard disk which I don't want/need.
Shame, otherwise I the Samsung would be my first choice.

I ordered Asus 1000H and after one day I cancel it to get the MSI wind.
cause I discovered that ASUS 1000H has a poor design, it looks a laptop from 15 years ago...

Very nice review, thanks.
Please notice that the 1000H is not only heavier, but a little bigger (taller and thicker) than the 1000 (SSD) version.
Cheers.

I can see the 1000 as being a wonderful replacement for your average laptop - the Linux version that is.

I have a 701 with the crappy xandros system, I'm going to install xubuntu or puppy linux.
Only problem is the atheros Ethernet and WiFi interface, you need proprietary drivers.

differences between eee 1000 and eee 1000H ?
thanks

1000 runs Linux and has a 40GB SSD for storage, 1000H runs Windows XP and has a standard 80GB HDD.

Does it really has speakers??
Javier140290 3 years ago
It sure does and very nice speakers as well. I use mine for playing MP(2,3)'s, AVI's, etc.
I also use it in the field with an MSI USB DVTV tuner. Great sound, excellent picture quality.
