The model *does* matter. At least, if you're replacing a Philips/Lite-on drive, it does.
I'm going through this process right now, and I've read reviews of people who were replacing a Lite-on with another Lite-on (even the same model), but if they're manufactured different dates they can have different internal components, such as differing PCB boards.
Hope this clears it up any other poor fuckers with Lite-ons out there, lmao. Everything else seems easier to replace.
If your not sure you can look on the disc drive its self...top left corner, and on the bottom left corner. Also If you don't have the Fancy doo-dads torqx screws drivers. You can improvise like i did. To open the xbox case I used something sharp..like a pointed knife or something to pop the hinges open...then for the torq screws I used a fairly pointed philllips...a little pressure downward with a twist and i managed to get them off. good luck on your repair.

It's easier then all that to figure out the drive you need. When you remove it you'll notice the top of the drive has a sticker. In the case of the samsung at least you'll see that samsung is the maker right there on the sticker

I was wondering if I can just take the drive key out from the old one and put it in the new one and it works or do I have to flash the key in order for it to work. I read online that you would have to do that and it worried me. The Xbox 360 doesn't ACTUALLY have the red arrow there, just take off the faceplate and look in the little hole right next to the disc tray and match it up to the corresponding colour in the video. Your Welcome :D

@tikterd12345 tere is so many systems out there, I have owned almost all of them since the 70's and I like them all, the ps3 is ok, but I still love the PS2 better, I like the ps3, but I don't own one, not enough games on it that I like, but I am not gonna slam someone for owning one, each system has had their share of bugs, the ps3 has had them, that is why they got rid of the backwards playability, and the xbox 360 has had it's share as well with the RROD, so it's a no win on what is better

ive got a hitachi drive and if i want to bypass flashing my replacement i have to swap the chip out right? well i noticed that on the hitachi model the chip is connected to the drive by some wires that are soldered on directly to the chip. will i have to solder my replacement drive onto my old chip if i want it to work?

I have the Yellow wires and a Liteon Drive, i cant seem to find a liteon drive on Xboxslave or anywhere . He mentioned that it is the same as a Benq drive, can i just buy a BenQ drive and put the Liteon circuit board in a Benq Drive?

The Xbox 360 doesn't ACTUALLY have the red arrow there, just take off the faceplate and look in the little hole right next to the disc tray and match it up to the corresponding colour in the video. Your Welcome :D

@YOUNSTER007 i bought it off some random website but let me tell ya it doesnt work i put it in and it dfoesnt work u have to use ur original disk drive unless u wanna do some hardshit its called "flashing your drive" its too hard for me i said fuck it im just gonna buy a new xbox when i get the money ive been offline for 6months =(
