Initially, before I heard the album itself, I was so sad Laura wasn't writing any original lyrics for "Gonna Take a Miracle" but just doing covers. Then I realized she was doing them with Patti LaBelle, Nona Hendrix and Sarah Dash!!
Laura was a sweetie-pie ... she'd bring tears to my eyes one moment ... and a BIG smile the next.
@MrJuxtapoz2010 Or Patti Labelle? Laura Nyro is a legend and her talents (whereas the talents of anyone) defies race. If you don't dig it that's fine but you don't have to be tactless.
Now I grew up from the age of ten on Martha & The Vandals, aka The Vandellas, and I love their Jimmy Mack version version still, but when Laura Nyro's Jimmy Mack came on the radio the first time I heard it, I nearly had a car accident! I had to pull over to the side of the road and listen and I cried for the beauty of the love she embedded in the music, and , for me, still it transcends the original. Thanks for reading,
I met her once, for perhaps 10 or 20 seconds, on a subway station in NY, when she was singing for a couple of dollars. I was commuting then from Brooklyn to Manhattan from the E train to the A train.
Her voice was wonderful, so full of hope and pain, all at the same time.
I think that "Gonna Take a Miracle" is her best and most sincere recording.
Woo-hoo! Thanks, Hearing Laura team up with Labelle is pure Heaven for me.
I read somewhere that she joined them on stage at one of their concerts to sing "Lady Marmalade", man, what I wouldn't give to have been in the audience that night!

Another white person steals a black song.

@MrJuxtapoz2010 She was merely paying tribute to her idols. Do you also think that the 5th Dimension were stealing her white songs?
