Hey mark Mr. Miller is right not about the test being stupid But about the hard drive making the biggest difference in any speed test. In this case, the new mac you are using no doubt has the 7200rpm hard drive vs the older 5400rpm drive. If you try this test using a solid-state primary drive, on ether unit. You will see real massive speed (your words) in effect. Trust... if the older mac had a solid state primary drive($500.00), It would blow the new mac(7200) rpm drive out of the water.

I'm sorry, what a stupid test.

1) Boot speeds only depend on the speed of the hard drive and the amount of software that it needs to load. The processor/graphics card have little to no effect on booting.

2) Same thing with my first point. Starting up programs depends on the hard drive speed and the frequency with which you use the program.

I think it is a bad test. I think you should use more benchmarks and the like. Do a gaming performance test, or an applications performance test.

Hate to spoil this, but I have a feeling that all of these loading / bootup tests are almost solely based upon hard drive speed. As drives are interchangeable, this isn't an effective comparison of the two systems. Some intensive encoding, realtime rendering or audio latency tests may have been more informative.

@Demonic7itan Imac but don't feel that you need a MAC to run Photoshop quickly, personally I run mutliple editing softwares a lot, mainly Cubase 5 and other VST's for music production and Photoshop Sony Vegas/Final Cut Lightwave and Adobe After Effects, the reason is that a proffesional multimedia designer needs a lot of processing power for mutlipe application BUT a Windows computer can defintaly run it at the same speed just maybe a little less relaible. But it is personal preference
