  • what is the piece at 2.13?

  • wonderful...

  • Also, you can buy the score (sheet music) from Dover. The ISBN for Dover's publication is 0-486-23683-8.

  • FOUND IT! The music is the Adagio (movement 3) from J.S. Bach's Sonata for Violin and Harpsichord in F minor. And, looking on Amazon.com, I found that Glenn Gould DID record it; and, listening to the audio sample on Amazon, I found that it exactly matches what we're hearing here.

Damn, am I good or what. Sometimes I even impress myself. :)

  • @ry83an Nice work! I thought the piece would never be found and I'd only ever hear this lovely, teasing little snippet. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Well done.

  • To purchase this exact recording, go to Amazon.com and type the following code into the Search field at the top of the Amazon.com website: B0000028NN. This is called the ASIN--this code will bring you directly to the Item Detail page on Amazon. (Note: Those are all zeros in the code. The letter 'o' is not present in the code.)

  • Sorry I can't be more specific!

But I agree: The music is sublime (like the rest of Bach's work).

Good luck! If I happen to come across this piece in the future, I'll post the title of the piece here.

  • This music has to be one of the following: 1) a transcription (adding the two violins) of a Prelude from the Well-Tempered Clavier (WTC); 2) the middle movement of a concerto for harpsichord; 3) the middle or opening movement of a trio sonata (but that would be weird because there are four voices present).

I've checked all the Preludes from the WTC and all of the middle movements from the harpsichord concertos--this music isn't there, so that rules out 1 and 2.

  • If you're still wondering what music this is, I can tell you this: It's definitely J.S. Bach. Moreover, I think the pianist is Glenn Gould--I'm not sure about that, but the crisp, detached (yet profluent) bass line and the clarity of the voicing all scream Glenn Gould to me.
