they seem to be focusing on poker...thats fuckin ridiculous. people get addicted to duster too, but for the majority of the population who can gamble responsibly and keep duster in the house for cleaning electronics without huffing it...those are the people who the casinos are for. people are so fuckin stupid.
A gambling problem isnt an addiction - it's a character flaw.
Most people who gamble recreationally would NEVER piss their families money away. While others will find all the excuses in the world to indulge in their hobby excessively.
It's insulting to hear a line up of old hags blame their reckless behavior on the 'addiction' as if it's some medical condition.
It can't "just happen" to anyone. It takes an especially selfish and irresponsible person to do it. They deserve zero sympathy.
@stufflymcstuff you describe compulsive gamblers perfectly as "selfish and irresponsible." but please realise that people can become addicted to gambling, just as they can alcohol or drugs. do you really beleive that compulsive gambling is a character flaw? "oh look, that man has gambled away his house, what a charcter flaw he has!" "dear oh dear, his wife has left him, what an awful character flaw he must have!"
i suggest than you do your research before making such flippant remarks
I'm Vicki (the 3rd woman who lost $30,000 to gambling). I have been free from gambling for over 4 years now because of my recovery group. I have also lost over 40 pounds and have regained my energy and my life back. LIFE IS GOOD!!
you know people like this need to realize after losing a few hundred dollars that you need to learn to improve your game and not flush anymore into it
Well, yes, gambling is killing people softly and quietly...I just got hit with one bullet, and barely survive...and wish I can go back to enjoy this precious life..
Gambling is a very serious addiction and sickness. It is not easy for somebody who is a compulsive gambler to stop. There is a growing number of men and women who are becoming addicted to it. It can destroy your family, your job..basically your entire life.
What makes gambling bad? A casino opened up about an hour away from my community- I seen the destruction with my own eyes. I agree its your right to gamble, divorces- businesses lost- families torn apart- suicide- I'm not placing the blame on the casino's, but I'm also not going to downplay the destructive effects that gambling had on our community.

well, your community might be filled with what we call "donkeys." you see, donkeys love to gamble. they dont realize gambling is a form of entertainment. they gamble to win money, and this is where they are wrong. you gamble to have fun, not to win money. if you win, thats great, u made some bucks. but donkeys realize it as making money, not entertainment, and thats when they are in trouble. for me, i gamble responsibly. 10 dollar games wont hurt my bankroll.
I can see your superior intelligence and experience on this subject far supercedes mine and the donkeys in my community. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me. :)
gambling is a sickness if you go more than once a year and spend more than 1% of your yearly income....if you really LOVE gambling....bring 1% of your w-2 form ONCE a year....i make 44000 a year so i can bring 440 bucks ONCE this year.....if i make 50 bucks i can quit, if i lose 50 bucks i can quit, i can quit anytime....but if i lose that 440 i STOP till next year :)
