EMA is a waste of time. If you wan to help students then give them free bus travel and get the colleges to provide them with books. Don't give them £30 a week to spend on whatever they like.
The fact is the majority took the piss and spent it on living the student lifestyle of petrol, driving lessons, cigarettes and booze. What this guy's saying sounds good and I know he has good intentions but only the very few will suffer properly. I had to get a part time job when I was at college, it was hard but it's the real world and people have become too used to getting free money in the UK.
if they wanna cut something cut income support for those who sit at home all day not doing nothing rather than just watching tv and getting paid by those who work hard and where does all that money go it goes for those who are fat lazy cunts who cant be asked to work...
This government is very anti-youth, as the rise in tuition fees and cutting of EMA will severely disadvantage young people from succeeding. Yet, winter fuel allowance is still being paid to elderly people who are too wealthy to need it. If the government wishes to cut a service that is beneficial to young people in one hand, in another they need to also reduce unnecessary non-means tested financial assistance for the old. The Coalition is fast creating a divide between young and old in the UK.
andy burnham can suck my fucking cock. He ought to come to my college and see how it's REALLY spent. I couldnt give a fucking shit anymore of his view or labour in general, he's totally ignoring the reality. prick.
I find it hilarious that people openly expresses communist views, ( for all or for no one ) but if we lived in communism, they would completely hate it... Personally, I think E.M.A is positive and very advantageous for this country to improve in the future.
mrhappykill, they've cut EMA enough already. They've taken away ema bonus's already this year which is £100/term...thats more than enough. I'm 18 and in £2500 debt just from college made from other people's mistakes. And to think in university other teens are getting into debts up to £20,000 for course fees...thats disgusting. How the hell do you expect us to pay back that amount of cash. Thats more than what people make in a year on minimum wage. The youth population shouldn't be punished!
@marnup92 how have you landed yourself in such a big debt from college? I assume it's the transport fee's, because as far as i'm aware college is free.
I'm sorry but EMA has to go. Not just for budget reasons but also because how can a government justify paying people to continue at 6th form/collage and then charge them to go the university. We can't justify rising tuition fees and keeping EMA. Andy Burnham admitted, in his leadership campaign, that there would be cuts - this is one he should support (unless, of course, he has a viable alternative).
Thank you Andy for standing up for the students and to stop this disgusting and anti-progressive cut of EMA. I am one the generation who will not receive EMA in college next year; and ill be the first one who will experience the university fee increase. Keep this good work up! Its great for the Labour party to be standing up to the con-dem government, and is the only party which serves a real alternative!

If you did a bit of research and knew what you were on about then you'd know how it's expected to be paid back.
