I teach Tai Chi, and I would agree that much of the movement is from the Yang style. I do think he enhance it with some stronger stiffer move to highlight the Klingon aspect for the story. He did learn on Earth growing up to tame his aggression with Tai Chi to keep from hurting other children. Then he went on to Klingon and became the champion fighter with his new advantages of control and balance. Became a tactical officer for star fleet in prowness for battle wisdom.
Why is Klingon martial art based on Tai Chi when they fight very aggressively, Tai Chi is a soft non aggressive system and it doesnt suit the mental aspect of a Klingon. I think base the Moqbara system on Karate would have been a better idée.
@80KungFu Tai Chi actually is a very effective combat system if you are taught the proper application of the techniques. Though Tai Chis is slow it is such for balance and health reasons. After all, even Kung Fu and Karate have slow forms. I know many different forms from Okinawan Karate, Korean Systems and Chinese Systems that are as slow and concentrated at Tai Chi.
actually, as with Tai chi, this would be sped up and gave more force behind it in application, also....Klingons use it to clear their mind too, as they are very spiritual
@80KungFu A real warrior would know that the asymmetrical strength and accuracy built by slow movement helps to increase combat efficiency. Tai Chi and Wing Chun are still requirements of Chinese military service. In fact, many aspects of Yoga (similar in quality to Tai Ch'i) were practiced by the warriors of India as well. Don't discount a style simply because it is labeled "soft" or "non-aggressive".
@Anthrolithos Akido (spelling) is as non agressive as it gets but highly effective with the right practicioner. I agree with your comment. In the spirit of this video, Qapla.
You can't fight aggressively all the time. In combat I fight extemely aggressively, but, when training, I move much more slowely, to focus on perfection and building strength. Klingons, having sutra-like teachings of Kahless, and thousands of years of martial experience, would understand this. You need time to reflect and focus.
Also Worf had studied over a dozen Earth and Federation styles, and while he may prefer to call his personal style by the Klingon name some of those styles have undoubtedly been infused into it.
Why are you saying this to me? That was not what I was talking about at all. I was talking about commander Riker when he was using Tai Chi and it looked terrible!
Worf's french dub was rather bad.. he lost his klingon epicness

The martial art uniforms of the future don`t look cool. The look more like pyjamas than nowaday ones.

You should see Tai-Chi in action by someone who was trained to use it as a combative form.

The Klingon are a very agressive species. Then how would they be able to develop a soft Tai Chi like martial art?
