  • this is actually how he does it. so ya'll bitches can shut your traps. He uses the Sunface cutoff to mute while he is tuning.

  • i think i know how he does it! well basically, jack white is a robot. i mean, its not possible for a human to be that good anyway.

  • um no, didn't sound like Jack at all

  • He's got a pickup cutout switch built into his hardware that he toggles back and forth. That is all.

  • @pantallametalla No. Actually he doesn't. Not even close. If you're so convinced that he does though, feel free to provide proof - which of course does not exist.

  • @borisvonpoopinstank lol, wow man. You're never going to progress with that kind of conviction. Here's a video for you v=qJFLzXwyDHI . Look and sound familiar?

  • @borisvonpoopinstank Also, here's a message board dicussing his cutoff switch. guitargeekDOTcom/chat/stompboxes-7/cutoff-switch-54161/ . I'm sure I could find more proof but hopefully that's enough for you. We guitar nerds need to stick together and help each other out not fight over stupid little details for the sake of some sort of pride. Good luck!

  • it has alot with the airline that he uses to

  • Ooh yeah sounds hot.

  • how about play like yourself not someone else? it shouldn't matter how jack white plays or what he uses. learn to play like yourself and make your own sound. just like jack did

  • @00skoolboy00 I made this video for some people on reddit who were wondering how this sound was being achieved. I really never play white stripes/jack white music and don't try to sound like him at all. I'm happily doing my own thing. Thanks.

  • @borisvonpoopinstank no i wasnt pointing that tward you. it was more for everyone else. i was reading threw comments and people were complaining about how "thats not how jack white does it" and shit like that. when people should just be themselves and not really worry about how other people do things. i understand you just made a video and im not trying to say anything about how you play or say you want to play like someone else. you just made a video, i get that haha, id do the same.

  • @00skoolboy00 so you are saying that Jack White had ABSOLUTELY NO influences ever in his entire career?? if that is what you are saying then you are wrong. Jack has listed several old school blues guitarists that influenced him when he was younger.

  • @InovaArchangelDX3 did i say that at all? what i said was, and if you read it again maybe you will understand. that when playing dont TRY and play like another person. influence is one thing, but to copy is something completely different. dont be stupid.

  • Let me ease everyone's pain. It's all in the Big Muff. It's touch sensitive, and Jack uses a "Up" only picking style. I know because I have a Big Muff and NO MXR Micro Amp. It only has to do with the BM!

  • @mance02 Lets see a video of you performing this technique as you describe it. I'd be interested in hearing what you are able to do. I tried just the BM with up picking. There's more going on than that. But, you say that's all there is. Show us. And don't cop out by saying that you aren't as good as Jack or some other BS.

  • Like that's difficult

  • sounds great!

  • not trying to be mean but get a pedal board

  • Seems that you unlock the secret.

  • roland cube? sweet amps

  • oh shut up, that still sounds nothing like jack white and how far off is your technique. keep your shitty secrets to yourself.

  • clean>micro amp>big muff>whammy>amp

trust me, this is the best set up with these peddles.

  • what is your guitar

  • whats that pedal?

  • Ball and Biscuit!!!!

  • It's close, but his seems to be a lot more defined. Like an extreme tremolo of sorts. Like you said at the end though it's probably the picking speed that he uses to really deliver it.

  • hmmm i thought it was a kill switch on his guitar, like jamie hince's

  • @Spookaduke100 definitely not, it's just a way of picking kind of, like just really quick up picking. There's a video of them playing Let's Build a Home on the old conan o' brian show where he does it a lot, including on conan's desk

  • maybe a little less distortion?

  • would this work with a devi ever hyperion?.....

  • awesome sound, now i know what to look for , thanks:D!

  • nah. im pretty jack just does it by being a fucking boss. but it does sound alright with the pedal

  • what do you know? maybe i play guitar...^^

  • @douistreet fuck yourself okay? you don't know anything about guitar sounds, pedals and amps.

  • I always thought JW didn't know how to pick single notes :D

  • @douistreet I see you're a kings of leon fan. That fact pretty much negates anything you have to say about anything. Good day to you sir.

  • hahahahahaha

  • @borisvonpoopinstank Hey amigo podrias darme una explicacion mas detallada de los pedales y efectos que usas pero en español por favor. Para un Fan mexicano de tu video.

  • @borisvonpoopinstank is being a Kings of Leon fan bad?

  • @TheBestNameEver34 In terms of credibility, yeah.

  • @timbo177 what i dont get is, just because hes a kings of leon fan that means anything he says doesnt count?

  • @timbo177 but Kings of Leon are a great band

  • @borisvonpoopinstank i hate kings of leon lol

  • @borisvonpoopinstank Pwahahahahahaha

  • Jack actually has two Silvertone amps with all of the setting cranked all the way. All you're hearing on stage is the Big Muff and his Silvertone's.

  • @spicyMcHAGGIS9green That and his Fender Twin Reverb. He NEVER runs his amp's through a PA.That's y he first started cranking to 10.That's how he got that 'Crumbling, bout to break through a wall' tone. The MXR is used bc of drain the Whammy puts on the FX chain. That's why its never turned off. Also hear his crap guitars.Biggest part is his Technique. Take your set-up and let him add his modded Ibg Muff and he'll sound like Jack White. The Mod was done late and doesn't make that much of a difference.

  • @TheThirdMan999 *Big Muff, don't wanna get flammed by the Grammar Nazi 'steersteer' again!!!

  • @TheThirdMan999 Well, his "crap guitars" aren't all stock. He's put awesome pick-ups in his guitars. Also, he used Gretsch guitars for the Raconteurs and he still had his sound on those records.

  • @spicyMcHAGGIS9green the guitars he used with the White Stripes are all stock except for new tuners on the Airline... He has some sick guitars for the Raconteurs and Dead Weather... His "Gretsch" COPPER Triple Jet is Sick(Not really a Gretsch, was made by Randy Parsons from scratch) ... The sound is Different in the Raconteurs... The tone is different, but, like I said, Put him in your set-up and he'll sound like Jack White...

  • @TheThirdMan999 He even says the guitars he uses in The White Stripes are Shit guitars... Says it makes him sick that people pay up to $4k for the Airline he uses... His theory is he he gets best results when he has to fight with his equipment... He DID use Vintage Tele's on the "Icky Thump" record... He wanted the piercing sound you get with a good Fender for a few of the solo's...

  • @TheThirdMan999 i know he used teles with loretta lynn, but are you sure he did recording icky thump?

  • @807513sam Yea, he mentioned t in Guitar World too... "I also used a couple of telecasters, there was my '69 and a 54' they have here in the studio... kinda like solos, so I could do high-pitched stuff and make the distortion what I wanted it to be, Instead of the high-output and scratchiness that comes from my other guitars."

  • Jack uses little to no sustain!Lets the Reverb kind of take the notes and get those'ghost notes.u gotta use the whmm w stutter technique, just gotta!!! Best way of describing technq is that you should be muting as soon as you play the note... that split second it takes you to mute is all you nees...I use my index finger with my nail to pick,so i mute with fingers.think he does 1.he will hold pick w knuckle and use fingers 2 pick(example,he hods pick with 2nd and 1st knuckle bend0nside of hand...)

  • @TheThirdMan999 People will listen to what you have to say because you have immaculate spelling.

  • @steersteer There is a CHARACTER LIMIT... Hence, I ABBREVIATED... Here is your dumb ass a key: Whmm=Whammy Pedal-what Jack White uses to jump an Octave on Solo's and lower it an Octave for songs like 7NA. Techniq=Technique. I just took of 2 letters. Hopefully you know the definition.I'm just telling you how He taught me.I had 2 typos.Think you could gather what I meant.I learned how to 'stutter pick' from JACK, so you might want to listen.

  • you did it man. that sounds just like that Jack White tone that resembles a couch being torn apart from his crazy picking. could you make a video to show us what it sounds like with the Micro Amp, Big Muff, and the Whammy? that'd be sick.

  • good one bro

  • Dude, that feedback sounds badass!

  • @MrV1C7OR i'm with you on that. i own a big muff and a whammy pedal, and when i play the whammy, it doesn't sound exactly like Jack White. all the vids of Jack White whammy playing don't exactly have his tone. and i guess this Sir has found thee main answer. that Micro Amp pedal. would love to see a demo with the whammy included.

  • @ZeppelinA7X To get Jack's tone, get a NYC Big Muff and cut Sustain down to 1 and get a TUBE amp and crank it all the way up.Jack never pumps his guitar through PA's,so his amps are ALWAYS at 10.Also, His MXR is always on. It definitely adds to his tone, but he uses it because of the drain the whammy puts on the effects chain.Gotta have reverb! He uses it to 'carry' the notes.Thats how he gets those 'Ghost notes' and 'noise'.It helps to have a 1485 Silvertone and a 70's Fender Twin Reverb.

  • @TheThirdMan999 Also, use a shitty guitar... He uses a no name Japanese holowbody tuned to Open E for some slide work. Was the first WS guitar. He paid around $100 for it.A Kay hollowbody tuned to open A for MOST(Death Letter, 7NA,Catch Hell Blues, etc.etc.)of his slide work.Got it for moving a Fridge. And, of course, THE Airline. A terrible guitar made from Fiberglass(AKA Reso-glass) that he paid $20 for.NEVER stays in tune, even 4 1 song! The pickup's r original and really get a lot of feedback.

  • Its mostly the sustain of the big muff with alot of gain... as far as the whammy goes it just is used basically as icing on the cake to put it the least.. if you dont use a pick you could also take your index finger and thumb together to pluck it i guess you could say to get the same effect. hope this helps

  • @AndrewBurleyLikesMe

Not really. The sustain of the big muff has nothing to do with it. It's ALL in the micro amp (boost) being turned up all the way. The whammy also has nothing to do with it. It's all the effect of a very over driven distorted signal. Hope this helps.

  • @borisvonpoopinstank

    So is it:

clean -> whammy -> microamp -> big muff

    or

clean -> whammy -> big mugg -> microamp

For me this gives two different results. Basically the Big Muff seems to regulate the volume of the microamp if it comes after it in the chain

  • @zweiterleser The whammy can be taken out of the equation all together. It has nothing to do with what I'm doing in the video. It's not even on. The path is as follows:

Clean guitar-> micro amp -> big muff -> amp

The settings on the big muff are as follows: All knobs set to ~ 1 O'clock

Let it be noted that I could not achieve this sound on all my guitars. The guitar in the video (Gibson Les Paul Double Cutaway Standard w/SD JB5 pickup) did it the best.

  • what else have u got turned on with the micro amp?

  • can you post a video with only the Digitech wahmmy, the big muff and the mxr to see how to get the tone ?

    Thank you

  • thanks, helped

  • which song is it.. I know i heard it before

  • @gus7avbys ball and biscuit

  • big muff and micro amp right ?

or are there other pedals ?????

  • THANK YOU :D!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thats fucking awesome man. What's your hand doing there? Are you slapping the strings with the side of your hand or is your picking something to do with it?

  • @Patchy333333 You can do both. I get the best sound by tapping on the strings with the edge of the pick. I'm finding that it can be done in more than one way however. Try different things and see what works best for you. Thanks for viewing... Don't forget to upvote if you like the vid!
