No sound issues here. I have a macbook pro 13 inch, it seems choppy at times with 10.6.2. Repairing disk permission is more of a pain than defragging on windows. I need to repair permissions at least once a week!
No flash problems for me.
Nice part no viruses or spyware, I have scanned frequently to make sure.
apple complains about disk defrag on windows wth is disk permissions for on the mac? why would the "average" user need that after a factory update from apple
I updated last night my 2008 imac,no issues at all for me its all good I think snow leopard is the best os ive used as previously I started with leopard which wasnt as good.before that I had windows xp an awful pc too with 256mb ram (wow serious power) also you seem too focus on the negative points of snow leopard, how about a video about some of the good points of it too.
My update went fine on my new iMac 27" Didnt notice anything different. Only problem I have at the moment is the WIFI lags. It works fine on all other PC's in the house. The internet works fine over ethernet (on iMac) but over WIFI it will just lag and pages take ages to load. I changes the DNS as advised but that didnt help. My PC that is in the same room is over WIFI and has no issues. Anyone else had this ?? If so is there a fix or some settings I need to change??
@luiscarre I found out that it was the firmware on my O2 router.. Apparently there was a bug that made it have problems with Apple computers via WiFi. Rang them and they updated the firmware and havent had a problem ever scince. I think the router is made by Thomson so you may have the same problem it may be worth trying to get a firmware update for your router.
thank you so much for replying i was waiting for a helpful answer like yours, but i think it's too difficult for me to update my firmware.. i'll look for it and try to do that, btw isnt there any chance it works with the next update for mac?
@luiscarre More than likely that a Mac update wont work as the issue was with the router and not the Mac. Ring your internet provider and ask them to update your routers firmware, O2 where able to update mine remotley. Hope that helps.
Mine did the same thing. I was able to see the volume in the corner but when I went into system prefrences, soundflower was selected. I had no sound at all, and the microphone didn't work, I just had to switch them to line out for the audio, and built in for the microphone. Strange issue though.
No issues, rather a change in my system preferences; my audio output automatically changed from headphone jack output to "Soundflower 2.1". Easy fix but annoying at the start.
Another lucky Macbook Pro user here with the update. Given that I only switched to Mac in August, my system is still pretty vanilla. I haven't customized or tweaked it in any way.
Dave, I use logitech usb speakers, and the volume goes down about ten minutes into a dvd, weird.
But more importantly, when I watch a streaming movie on netflix for two hours, then close Safari and check mail, I get the colored ball telling me I need ram. Now on my 1.6 ghz intel m netbook with only 1 gig ram, I never had this happen. There seems to be something about mac os x that needs more ram than a comparable windows machine.
Any thoughts on this? Why isn't 2 gigs of ram enough anymore???
@johnmonk66 are you quitting safari, or just closing the window? I've noticed that Safari tends to eat up a lot of ram the longer it runs, especially when watching video, but quitting it will fix it.
Well it happens at different times. Sometimes I close out one window to open another and it freezes, other times as you said. But as you mentioned safari eats up RAM I remember that it also happens while watching a long streaming video. Is there something better than Safari?, As I mentioned, my little netbook never had this problem in either explorer or google chrome
I've noticed that firefox tends to do a little better on the mac lately. I'm not sure if you're experienced with a mac or not, but a lot of people who are new don't realize that they have to actually tell an application to quit. You can do that by typing cmd+q or selecting quit from the application menu in the menu bar. that will clear the application from memory.
I do think I quit properly most of the time, but you made me think of another question...let us say you close with the red button instead of choosing quit in the menu, is there a way to see what's still running? Ctrl, Alt, Delete is the butt of a lot of jokes but it does show you everything that is running on a pc, is there a way I can see everything on my mac?
Itunes was always running three background programs on my pc even when itunes was not running itself
the mac version is cmd, alt, esc. it lists all running applications and gives you the option to quit them, but it doesn't list the background processes, activity monitor does. it's under utilities in the applications folder. hope that helped.
MacBook 13". My trackpad has stopped responding properly. Right click works only one out of three times, and two finger tap is even worse. Also the bottom quarter has become completely unresponsive, even when sliding finger from top to bottom (before it was unresponsive only when starting to slide the finger from or along the bottom, probably to simulate the missing button). On the plus side, YouTube videos no longer turn my MacBook into a thermonuclear reactor.
sounds like you should return it, I am not too happy with my macbook pro either. It keeps giving me the colored ball asking for more ram, I do everything the same I did previously on my subnotebook and I never had ram problem on that much slower machine
Return it? Because Apple can't keep from breaking things with their updates? Nah. My MacBook Pro 13" worked perfectly on 10.5.8, and it's working great now that I've downgraded to 10.6.1. I think I'll just skip further updates for the time being.
AHH, I had assumed your trackpad problems were hardware related by the way you described it. But if I ever get an issue with mine, hardware or software related, I am bringing it back and getting them to fix it.
Yo dave, i had the sound problem too, was scary at first, i thought it had messed something up! but changing it back to internal speakers fixed it for me too...scary times tho
I just did the update, no sound problem for me... I have the same model MBP as you Dave... maybe it has to do with the native install of Snow Leopard (mine was factory installed).
Only one problem with my update , for some reason my iMac was on mute after the update and I couldnt raise or lower the volume. Turned out that after the update my sound output had changed to "soundflower 2ch" when it should have been "headphones"
I can't use the internet wifi because of this fucking update

Disappointed, it did not fix the NAS -36 problem and not fixed write access to SMB shares. Also Flash just does not like SL?
