Thanks to precious Knut I have become an avid bear fan. Researchers are finding them to be as intelligent as great apes and emotionally able to form lifelong caring bonds of trust with their human parents. Bears are abused and misunderstood all over the world.They are generally tolerant of humans unless startled, starving or sick or moms protecting cubs etc.Hikers should be educated as to how to behave in the presence of bears to avoid confrontations.Bears are charismatic & magnfnificent.

Check out Yang Yang's 1998 Youtube when he was just a tyke still. You'll see another side of the evil bear persona. Check out Bart I and Bart II and Buffy and Brutus. To their human parents they are beloved big kids. They really only maul for reasons that are actually understandable and they don't thrill kill the way people do.When they shake intruders and swat them, often their blows are fatal as they are so strong.That is their way of showing who's boss. Bears are consumate control freaks.

Yes I'm serious, but I know enough about bears to avoid being a bear hugger. Due to their unpredictability, I wouldn't be caught in bear territory outside of a locked vehicle with the motor running. Check out Bart II Tum's commercial. It is a spectacular display of the enormous strength of bears. Before meeting me my husband was an avid hunter and excellent marksman, but recently he suggested we go to Berlin to "meet" Knut. He is as much of an animal lover as I am now.

PS: I'm so serious that I have donated my art on WEBSHOTS (karenvstefanini) for environmental and bear protection fundraising in precious Knut's honor. These darlings are misunderstood and abused mercilessly all over the world. Asian bile farms, Indian bear dancing, Pakistani bear baiting and trophy hunting should be banned immediately. I have donated a fortune to help protect habitats and to promote educational programs to benefit bears and other wildlife. They enrich our planet so much.

America's youth are avid participants in environmental causes. Plus many well heeled adults are donating anywhere from $10,000 to $100,000+ out of their own pockets to help purchase grizzly habitats each year. Many bear experts and researchers are very upset over all the bad p.r. Stephen Colbert is generating about bears. It is very serious to bear advocates and researchers. I recently learned that Brad Pitt & Jennifer Anniston are honorary supporters of Vital Ground and enjoyed Bart.
