I just heard a version of this song from the 70's by Fost Sylvers for the first time. I never knew this was a remake. Her version is excellent, but hearing an earlier version makes me hear it differently.
Ummm, this song was written by Smokey Robinson, and first appeared as a 1967 single under Motown Records.....produced by Robinson and performed by his group, "Smokey Robinson and the Miracles".
@tantorss I'm not a 'sir', all female here, and no need to apologize. Judging by a couple of those other comments, you weren't the only confused one. I agree with you about some needing the wax cleaned out. Or the brain cleaned out maybe? I guess some think women singers should all sound the same.
I've always loved this song and her performance. But let's face it, she didn't have to be that technically proficient a singer to make this song a hit. Back then they had lower standards for singers.
@The096757--Call your radio station and demand it. Most 80's oldies stations think the decade started somewhere around 1983. They program stations as if it were today's music, all the "cool" songs. No wonder there is a mass exodus from terrestrial radio.
@jeffp1111 You now have iPhone Internet radio stations that you can find 80's oldies stations. There is also 80's Internet radio. Today's youth doesn't understand this music and finds it boring.
@studiosinger But us people between 40-60 years old appreciate and don't find it boring. They (today's youth) are not going to be listening to oldies or this type of Hot Adult Contemporary format anyway and if they are regularly, then they must appreciate this type of music.
she sounds like a WOMAN !!! with a strong voice that s all !!! i love her as i love TINA TURNER , BONNIE TYLER , ANA GABRIEL OR WHATEVER ROUGH STRONGER VOICES !!!!
This song brings me back lots of memories when a certain girl and I used to tear up the dance floor and we were very happy together. I will never forget this song or that girl.
she doesn't sound like a man at all. any man that sounds like that is too feminine! she has that gritty sound, Janis Joplin had it, Bonnie Tyler. Love it! Hope I never hear a man sing like that!
Loved Kim Carnes. This was my fave song by her. I liked Betty Davis Eyes, but this was the one I really liked and it didn't get played as much. Kim Carnes had an awesome voice. Always loved the sax and keyboard in this song too. It's a great song.
i wish they would play this on the radio. all these good songs from the 1980s that never get heard are like lost gems. i am sick of the original and want to hear this version. brings back memories 1980-1981. she has a better voice than all these hip hop hags out there.
@The096757 - SiriusXM has not one but TWO 80's stations, so you can listen nonstop to all this 80's stuff until you get just as sick of hearing it as you did back in the 80's! :)
the 1980s had plenty of white women making dance music but they are never heard but some ugly, gross, black thing like tone loc is.
satellite radio has a great 1980s new wave station but their top 40 80s station is not that good. i want an 80s station that plays every song out there and not just the same 25 afro americans who everyone is sick of.
white women (except madonna) who made 80s dance songs are not being heard.
@steveland63 you'll find all this music on vicenzaradiostar.it. it is a web station and plays non stop music fro 70s and 80s. let me know if you like it !
WOW!!! I always wanted to sing a song or two with Kim Carnes. I saw her in concert in 1981 at Pine Knob in Clarkston, Michigan. She was great, & I bought her Mistaken Idenity album the next day.
@setnosiva She was a singer for a particular period of time where she was greatly rewarded. She wasn't underrated at all. She was up there with Michael Jackson on the We Are the World video.
We enjoyed hearing this @ a 70's party way back in 1998! Although this was a 60's song it was a hit during the 70's and has even come back as a favored oldie.
wow! was reading some of the ridiculous comments and people hating on kim carnes, well this song was covered by just about everybody and their mother and i don't care if smokey wrote it or was the first one to record it,kim did it better than anyone,i've heard just about all the versions of it and this blows them all away.
I have heard it said that Kim Carnes is the Rod stewart of female vocalists. And I say "amen"! This cover of Smokey's original is the best, and is yet another example of how the artists of the '70's were just so good...
Yeah, one of the few remakes I think is better. Whoever's blowing the guts out of that sax helps make the song. Probably only song of hers I liked but she scored with this one.
That "PIG" is definitely NOT Kim Carnes I was talking about, LOL!! We're certainly not on the same page here, but I know my eyes are not deceiving me, and I don't want to be mean either, LOL!!

Mariah Carey would be too off to sing this song. It should never be repeated with low life talents of today. It was sung better by Smokey and Kim Carnes.
This version may have been a bigger Pop hit, but The MIRACLES' original version is better. The Miracles are considered legends with over 50 chart hits and 4 songs in THE GRAMMY HALL OF FAME. Where is Kim Carnes today ??
1981,Raceway Park,Blue Island,Il.....During intermission here comes Kim Carnes on the Loudspeakers doing "More Love'...Everyone in the grandstands having a great time.....Lookin' around everyone smiling...Just had to be there.
@StayingBack71 1980 Renald's exotic RV park, Nashville TN Everybody swimming in the huge pool, this song starts playing over the airwaves, everyone is loving it. Good times never frgotten!
This brings back so many good memories like swimming in a big pool at a camping resort in Nashville which is where I first heard this song blasting over the airwaves. I fell instantly in love with it!
Irony: Not liking a singer because she sounds like a man, believing it should be given back to the original singer...who is a man. (but has been accused of sounding like a woman more than once)
@ISayNukem Yep, that's irony, alright. This is a great version of this song & even Smokey himself said so. I like the sax solo & 2nd key change; I think it adds something great. This is the highest charting version of this song, incl. the original, so THERE!

As good as Smokey Robinson's version is(& not to put the great man down in any way),I cannot deny the fact that Kim Karnes' blows it away by a mile. It's too bad we don't hear new music from her now--she still sounds utterly fabulous!
Amazing how a song will just take you back in time. I remember being 5 years old int he back of my momma' Monte Carlo listening to this. She was so young and beautiful and I thought the sun set on her.
Love this version. Great blue-eyed soul from Kim. Interesting story I heard after this charted. Smokey used to write a new song for every artist who had a hit with a cover of one of his old songs. He did it for Kim, but she she said no thanks and didn't record it !!!!!
@AprilStevensSunny That's not exactly true. Smokey took the song to Carnes' producer, George Tobin. He asked Smokey to sing the song, and liked his performance so much, that he insisted Smokey record the song himself, with Tobin producing it . The song was "Being With You ". It was a million-selling #2 Pop smash.
@AprilStevensSunny - WRONG! Smokey wrote another song for Kim "Being With You" and submitted it to her manager, that had just had a falling out with Kim....and he convinced Smokey to let him produce the song with Smokey on lead...Kim had not even heard the demo.... Either way, "Being With You" was a big hit for Smokey, and he was glad to have it...Cruel Irony, Smokey's version went to Number 2 on the charts, held off of the Number One Spot, by Kim Carnes, with "Bette Davis Eyes" Too funny.
Oh my! Bloomington, Ind. just turned 30 riding around in a '61 Vette fuely with the top off. Elizabeth Porter next to me and Kim Carnes doing the vocals! 61 now no Vette, no Elizabeth but ALL the memories! Big Post ++! Thanks for the ride...
Much better than Smokey Robinson's style. His voice is to high. Kim's voice put the soul into this song. Great song in the 80's and now. it should get more air time on the radio.
the first 20 seconds from Bill Cuomo are priceless.

One of the very few covers I like better than the original. And I'm a Smokey Robinson fan. The audio on this one was excellent.

Love this version. Great blue-eyed soul from Kim. Interesting story I heard after this charted. Smokey used to write a new song for every artist who had a hit with a cover of one of his old songs. He did it for Kim, but she she said no thanks and didn't record it !!!!!

@AprilStevensSunny He wrote the song "Get Ready" that was a big hit for Rare Earth. The Temptations did it as well.

I remember this song when I was little. I wonder what Kim Carnes is doing now? I haven't heard about her in years. I loved Bette Davis Eyes.

Much better than Smokey Robinson's style. His voice is to high. Kim's voice put the soul into this song. Great song in the 80's and now. it should get more air time on the radio.
