Federer isn't 22 years old...like Djokovic, Murray and Del Potro. He is much older that them...so he needs to make sure he doesn't over do it physically. Things like this (lung infection) can result if he pressurizes his body too much...

Personally, I would love if he were able to miss Indian Wells and Miami..so he would be fresh for the clay season. He's already won the slam for the early hard court season..so his job is done. But damn ATP won't let him, or others, skip these Masters 1000's!

yeah I wouldn't be surprised. If he's not a 100%, why we he feel like he should struggle through illness to compete at masters events. Players are remembered by how they performed at the majors, and at this point in his career how much can indian wells and miami mean to him. I don't think it's a coincidence that over the past couple years Federer has been inconsistent at non slam events while still maintaining his stellar slam play.

yeah...but if federer as he always say that he wanna enjoy tennis..then its not about just doing well in grand slam it about doing well in all tour..and i think this year maybe the last for him on the top of the ranking coz i think he care now about breaking sampras record 286 weeks in the top..

..and i know if hes ill he should pull out..but this time in the year is more important if he wanna keep the no1 coz last year he didnt have many points in this time ...so this is the time when he suppost to increase the points btween him and no2 coz he dont know if he wil win RG or WM..so he must do well in this time before those two..i think he must do every thing to play indiana or atleast miami...

the beginning of 2009 was bad for Fed and he can make a lot of points by playing well at the beginning of 2010.

im not sure what a lung infection is or how long it takes to recover but i think he will do everything he can to play indian wells and miami.

He has a charity match in IW also. im sure he will play that

to be honest...he look very healthy in this video...i hope we see him soon...coz its bad not taking  advantage of the good run at the begining of this year..pulling out from many tournments gonna break that run and he gonna lose the sensitivity to the matches ..i hope we see him in IW...that will be great

i had lung infection last october...its a painful thing to have. really bad side effects..takes at least a month to fully recover from as well...
