  • thanks a lot for the transcription! its very useful!

    keep on grooving

  • hey dude i was wondering if you can email me the notes in a lower octave cuz i play tuba/sousaphone which is also bass and if you do all i have to do is transpose?

  • @KronicKush619 No problem, just send me your email address.

  • Dude you are the shiz niz!!!

  • Michael Jackson has a beautiful voice

  • Great to see another lefty at work! Wilton's great; he's got a tone similar to Jamerson but the phrasing of say, Alphonso Johnson, how about Some Sir Duke eh??

  • Great job, came here to see the Douglas after reading the thread on Talkbass.

  • definitely the best version of this song on youtube. your bass sound is AWESOME.

  • i'm now really gassing for that Douglas Pisces. man it sound's so... thumpy!

  • @wmather10 In fact, I first wrote it out in standard notation, and then added the tab as a way to indicate precisely where a specific note should be played. (In my opinion, of course).

  • You've got a killer sound, man! I mean, the high-end gear doesn't hurt, but without good chops and feel (both of which you've clearly got in abundance), anything can sound like butt.

Super-useful video and transcription, too; I've got 10 hours to learn 30 songs, and this was a total life-saver.

  • @aureentulava Thanks, man. Comments like yours make transcribing stuff worthwhile. Glad I could help.

  • @aureentulava The sound is nice, but the only thing I see that I'd call high-end is the Avalon U5; the bass is like $130 and the VT isn't much more than that.

  • The best I have ever seen this song done....thanks for posting

  • how old r u? lol

    BEAST! =D

  • Wow!!! you play this song smoother than any one I've seen on the Tube...with all nuances of the original too. Great cover.

  • nice! i started playing bass just with this song in mind cos the bass is so good lol.

  • thanks for the notes not tabs i can't figure out tthe timeing of te song from tabs

  • Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you for the tab..I've been looking for correct version for ages, this song is kinda hard to learn by ear lol..so thanks a million for the tab..and awesome cover too =) ..thanks again

  • Great :D

Like the way you play, very smooth, also your sound in your video is awesome :)

Thanks very very much for posting the standard AND tab notation in one doc, it really helped me ^^(as i ain't able to read standard notation yet ^^)

    W8ing for more :)

  • bass line is by "James Jamerson"

  • It was definitely inspired by Jamerson, but it was actually written by a Motown arranger and performed by Felder.

  • @timometzemakers oh wow I thought jermaine played the bass for the group.

  • @danielson2891 - Wilton Felder played this line. This was recorded by Motown's "LA division" - Jamerson was still part of the "Detroit Division" in 1970.

I agree with tim - all these cats definitely looked up to Jamerson as their primary influence.

  • my bad your right

  • @danielson2891 oh man, no prob! For a brief period back in college, for some reason I thought that Joe Osborn played bass on every Motown tune that was ever recorded....

    Man, was I off base..

  • good job, i envy your bass

  • absolutley brill!! keep it up man, siiik :)

  • excellent,thank you i'm lefty too!

    thanks from france

  • wow the only bass player I have found that is actually interested in teaching the bass line instead of trying to show off ! you're a great teacher and thanks for posting the tabs it made it easier to follow u
