Betty is quite right and LawrenceKennard is quite wrong....see Wikipedia. Yams and Sweet Potatoes are TWO ENTIRELY DIFFERENT PLANT FAMILIES and come from entirely different parts of the world. BETTY I WISH WE WERE NEIGHBORS CAUSE YOUR KITCHEN ROCKS I CAN ALWAYS GET IT RIGHT LOVE YOUR VIDEOS OH AND YOUR SHOULD DO SOME FASHION VIDEOS LOVE THE OUTFIT
@Jordans03 You can get that glaze on pie crusts, etc. by slightly whisking an egg, and then brushing the pie crust or cookies or whatever with it before baking.
Hi Betty, I love your videos and I am cooking lots of your recipes tonight for dinner. I would like to add marshmellows to this casserole could you please give me some advice?
I would cut the amount of brown sugar in half, and add 1/2 cup miniature marshmallows to the brown sugar/pecan mixture. Place all of this mixture on top and bake as usual. Watch to make sure the marshmallows don't get too brown. If they start to get too brown, then just put some alumninum foil over the top until the dish is cooked through.
Getting ready to try this for dinner tonight, thanks so much for the recipe, Betty! I really enjoy your videos and am looking forward to trying a few of your delicious dishes! Merry Christmas to you and your family :)
Made this version and enjoyed every single bite!! The best Thanksgiving dinner that I've had in a few years and your recipe was part of it. Thank you!
I guess she must be close to my age! Believe it or not, it used to be trendy! Now, it's more like a collector's item. Sweet potatoes seem like the perfect food for that dish! Thanks for your sweet comment!
Thanks for your lovely comment! Yes, you can just use fresh sweet potatoes. It is some extra work, but the combination of flavors is wonderful! I hope you enjoy the recipe!
Sooo Glad I discovered your Great Cooking Video's Betty ! My wife died in a
car wreck a year ago, My mom in 1997 of Pancratic Cancer, My Grandmother long long ago, so.... all my favorite cooks are gone now . This video is of a dish that
besides Turkey, always made Thanksgiving feel like "Thanksgiving" to this now 54 yr old Southern boy and brings back such sweet memories and sweet tastes back into my life again and for that I can't thank you enough except to say thank you again.
I am curious about a comment you made on this video. How LONG could you reasonably freeze this for and still eb good for consumption and HOW do you freeze it ? Plasctic zip lock bags, in aluminum foil, storage containers, etc ?
My daughter bought them for me at a discount store called Gabriel Brothers. There is one in Lexington, KY, and one in Ciccinnati, OH, but those are all I know about--and their offerings come and go! Thanks for asking!
Hi! Thanks so much for clarifying my position! It's not like I'm any different from anyone else. I just have my priorities, and at the top is looking and feeling well! My lifestyle is just a choice that is easy for me to live with. Thank you for explaining this to all! Thanks for being a faithful viewer, and have a wonderful day!
Hi Jimmy! Yes, I'm an egg-cracker from way back! I know you don't do Thanksgiving, so I hope some of my uploads will not be tedious for you. I'm planning a cheese fries casserole soon that you may like, and then on Sunday I will be showing a trip on a dinner train. I hope you will enjoy some of those! Take care,
I mean I don't forceing you. Me :) Mine was no offense. Sorry for my bad english.
And I think when you eat 200g extra sugar per a week, you can't burn it wtih gym, cause this is physics and math. Belive me or calculate it. 4kg can be burn per a month(from fat) when I work out few hours every day. :S 200g sugar is about 800 calories, a 90kg-men can burn it at least with 3 hours work out.
I don't burn off all my extra calories at the gym--I just try to practice some restraint in choosing the foods and amounts that I eat! It will work for anyone--lots of fruits and vegetables and tuna, but go lighter on high calorie foods!
I love that you are doing American Classics for the holidays. As far as people who sit at home and make commentary based on their own stewed juices.. well, there is no accounting for bad taste and breeding,as they used to say. Regardless, Betty, we love your videos and the view is free... so if you don't care for this, please leave the room quickly and quietly! :)
Hi Patsy! Yes, it's classics all the way! I have put 2 Playlists on my profile page--one for holiday dinner suggestions and the other for party recipes. I will be adding to both as the holidays approach! Thanks so much, Patsy, for the support you have given me, particularly in addressing the questionable nature of some of the comments on this video. I removed a few of them. I am cooking for people like you--not them. Thanks again for giving me encouragement and inspiration!
...and how often. Yeah, I know that. And genetics is important too.. Actually we don't eat so many sugar, we eat preferably fat :D. Different countries, different traditions. :) No offense.
I do best by not denying myself anything; I just don't go wild eating anything that is sugary/fatty. If I want something that's unhealthy, I generally eat a large apple first, and then take a very small serving of cake, pie, candy, etc., but I don't miss out on anything!
Betty, you look lovely, and dont let anyone tell you different..I love your recipes and I would delete any negativity..thank you for the professionalism of your videos and the previlage of going into your home for your treasured recipes being made...You certainly are a star in my book, and I look forward to all your recipes for my family...hugs from rhode island...

I can usually remember where I put everything!

the good thing about using yams is u dont have to bake or boil the sweet potatoes which saves a great amount of time.

Great recipie, but all yams ARE sweet potatoes, but not all sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes are a variety of yams.

Would you suggest adding cinnamon to the casserole if we wanted to, or would that be overload or interfere with the nutmeg?
