0:36 YouTube video: Maxwell Smart [Agent 86] with Hymie the Robot and The Chief [played by Edward Platt]. February 14, 1916: birth of Edward Platt, American actor (d. 1974).
@SPOOKSTR I have that one...it's here in my videos. You can look for it, it's called "Get Smart meets Hymie. I also like the one where he tells hymie, "Hymie, Snap off that light", and he rips it right out of the wall. Lmao!
I love this serie!!! I didnt see the movie with Steve Carell, but i think Don Adams was perfect as Maxwell Smart, and noone will ever be able to replace him.
Of couse, no one will ever replace Don Adams, but as I said I found the movie to be original, if it were to copy Don Adams & the series, I think it would have been a "rip off" of the series. You have to give some credit for the makers of the movie to try to make it original. If they would have copied the series, then NO ONE would have enjoyed it....at least ....I think so.
@Seth66 it was actually pretty good and while yes the original does deserve the credit, Steve Carell did a very good job of respecting the character Don Adams made classic.
Actually, Mel had nothing to do with this episode, as he was busy filming "The Producers", 'Matey'. Since this was basically designed for future syndication, very few "topical" events and real people were mentioned in the episodes (a good example is the reference to "ACB- the third spy network" in season three; that was a dig at ABC being "#3" of the three TV networks at the time)- the "Horn Phone" {which sounds like a Longhorn steer} is indeed a topical nod to President Johnson.
Oh Man.. Mel Brooks has really done it this time LOLL The "Horn" phone to the "white house"??
LOL I think that horn is a Jewish thing where they blow the ram's horn..Mel being Jewish himself has been hinting all along. 1-he tells ppl to Get Smart 2- then he talks about Chaos and 3-Control! that was no accident...He is amazing...(no he was not with the thieves)! Thanks for thee Video.its gr8. (and I got the idea from Jordan Maxwell)! lol watch some of his videos too. and learn! ;)
The "Horn Phone" is a topical reference as to the occupant of the White House at the time this was filmed (1967)- a Texan named Lyndon Baines Johnson....
I remember they used the horn phone again to convince Max's friend (Don Rickles) they were real agents...Don says "What is this - Dial-a-Cow?? ... I'll make ya feel at home! (into receiver) MooOOOooo!" Great stuff.
@Bertminator his real name - typically, though, minus the h originally in gauthier. he's my cousin, although i've never met him (my dad did, once). you can check his website. he went from stand-up to broadway (Conrad Birdie in Bye Bye Birdie) to hollywood, lotsa parts in lotsa shows, including the starring role in a robin hood spoof When Things Were Rotten; however, I expect the consensus is that Get Smart's Hymie is the standout.
@EnergyPimps Cool that your dad met him. That would be neat. I, myself am told by my godmother that I'm related to Randy Bachman of B.T.O., but I never met him and I hear he's a distant cousin (how distant I don't know).
You know, the movie wasn't very well-recieved, but Patrick Warburton was exactly the right actor for Hymie.

I like the one where Max tells Hymie to ''kill the light'' and Hymie pulls out his revolver and shoots the bulb.

I just saw the movie today. I didn't think it was funny at all. There was only one Don Adams.
