but its not everyday anywhere dog. its a certain type. not sure what but i know the south koreans eat it.

  • I misss living in Korea

  • It's not chinese new year, it's a new year by lunar calendar. The name in korean is "Sullal".

Whichever nation that celebrates a new year by lunar calendar, the days fall on the same days.

  • North Korea decided to occupy all land of South Korea.

Know, Love and Support the "Little Pebble" & "Father Jean-Marie".

If you do this, you can change tragic future of South Korea.

  • do you mean hotdog?

    KAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKA.... = ))))

ya "aryan" american faggot likes dogs dont you = ))))))

  • And speaking of Korean history, yes it's riddled with incompetence in past 500 millenium or so, but it had its share of brilliance in between with innovations and good governance. Try to see both sides of things instead of all the bad things. My only advice to you.

  • I agree that Lehman, AIG, etc really hosed a lot of people, but most of the white collar crime is restricted to Wall St. In Korea, it is all pervasive. People screw and scam each other on a daily basis and they really have no recourse as consumer protection is next to non-existent from what I know. Yes, Taiwan and China are even worse, but before waving the taegukgi and comparing themselves to Japan yet the same time bashing them...we should realize Korea has long way to go in many areas.

  • As far as Korea goes, yes we made some incredible advances (movable type well before Gutenburg,etc...) and had relatvie peace for a while. Next to the Korean War and Second World War, Korea suffered the most from the Japanese invasions of 1592 and 97 which all arose out of intrigue and incompetent corrupt govt and devastated Korea economically, socially and especially culturally. Korea also missed the boat on modernization as a 'hermit kindgom' and became the biatch of Japan the list goes on..

  • Every country and civilization made gross errors due to miscalculation and incompetence. China fell behind because of incompetence of late emperors and empress of Qing and Mao's policy. Japan's WWII and its decision to attack US, economic bubble in 1980's. Etc. Important thing is the big picture and whether they are making a stride forward. Japan has, China has and certainly Korea has, if not more out of the 3. But is it perfect? Hell no. But life goes on, hoping for the better.

  • not waving any flag, just stating the facts. Japan is probably the most orderly people in the world, but it also stems from their historical circumstance and Tokugawa's iron fist rule conditioning. Japan has its own share of social problems. In fact if someone get hurt or being robbed on the street, more likely no one will bother to help in Japan then in Korea. While they make effort to not be nuisance of others, they also make point not to care or interfere with other's affairs

  • Look... I am not saying Japan is perfect. In fact the Japanese are really sick and warped. Regarding humanitarianism... YES the Japanese are generally regarded as being very guarded, private, even two-faced, but THAT IS NOT FACT and yes Koreans are seen to be generally more upfront and down to earth people, but they are no less compassionate than the Japanese. Did you not read the story of my friend holding a dying man in his arms while everyone fled from the bus and not bother to call 911?

  • Experience is different for everyone fox. If you judge a Korean compassion on that single incident, what about da incident in Japan when a Korean student died trying to save a drunken guy who fell off the track along with another Japanese man while no one bothered to do anything? Also on that same logic, can I judge compassion of Americans on all the white collar crime that brought the entire wallstreet down? Or incessant killings by troubled teens with loaded guns?

  • That's being smart not less compassionate. Look the point is, for any given country, if you want to start dishing shit, there's no end of it. It should be balanced. I feel lotta anger in you Fox. Probably because you had first or 2nd hand bad experiences. But not everyone including foreigners in Korea sees the way you do or share the same experience. We are afterall prejudiced based on our own experiences.

  • You think Korea is so bad, try China or Taiwan. I live in Singapore now, it's much relaxed and comfortable here with people more or less abiding law. But the country is small and easy to control and govt has ruled with iron fist resulting in docile public with little creativity or assertiveness. And we have our share of corruption and irrational behaviors that stresses us, it's just different variety.

  • I'm not saying Korea doesn't have her share of problems, but I think you're overly critical as if everywhere else in the world is heaven compared to Korea, which is farthest from the truth. When you add up all the pros and cons, US or Canada aren't any better or worse than Korea. If not, there won't be increasing number of foreigners from US, Canada, Japan, Russia as well as other countries migrating to Korea or taking up Korean citizenship every year.

  • Forex, The whole world's economy is in shithole right now because some of rich pricks in so called developed countries were so arrogant and greedy they messed up the whole thing. AIG, Lehman, Citibank, entire wallstreet, you name it. Even as average working man are suffering, these CEO's got off with fat bonus and exit package. Yah sure, Korean society maybe full of injustice and corruption. US is 100 times worse, it's all under the surface.

  • And as for Koreans being not compassionate, I think you really don't know your own people. Koreans are amongst the most sentimental people in Asia. They are rather cold and weary of strangers and foreigners until they get to know them. That's because Korean history is full of wars and battles with foreign force and ideology.

  • I know it sounds like I am bashing my own people and I am but only because I care about Korea. Being a 1.5 generation Korean Canadian (notice how Korean comes before Canadian, unlike in America) I have both a Western and Korean perspective on things. By no means am I a fan of the US, but at least in the US bridges, dept stores don't collapse and gas lines explode due to corruption or negligence. Yes, Koreans can be nice to foreigners once they get to know them, but to other Koreans forget it.

  • If you were to understand Korean and watch the news you would know first hand how shallow and rotten, NOT ALL, but a good chunk of Korean society is. Take for example Korean doctors. Per capita they are much richer than their Western counterparts, many of them millionaires and yet they still issue false failing health exams to sons of the rich so they don't have to do military service justice to make a few more bucks. Hippocratic oath? Try hypocratic oath instead.

  • You've heard about the collapse of the Songsu bridge or the collapse of the Sampoong dept store in the mid 90's or rupturing gas lines in Deagu or the last years burning down of of Sungnye gate, anational treasure and ICON OF SEOUL.right? On a smaller scale how about people dying because a karaoke owner locked his business during a fire to prevent customers from leaving without paying or scores of preschoolers dying in a camp fire that broke out due to the negligence of teachers partying it up?

  • My friend, if you were to understand Korean, you would see what a truly heartless and shallow society Koreans have which is worsening with Westernization. Most Koreans will not admit it though out of fierce pride and in fact will probably confront you. I could go on all day how messed up Korea is. Korea's history is nothing but a never ending story of incompetence, corruption, greed and suffering and that is why they are some of the most resilient and determined people you will ever meet.

  • All I can say is, America as a society, in general and Canada even more so being a semi-socialist state, is more compassionate than Korean society. Oh btw, did you know Korea ranks near the top of motor vehicle fatalities? Nearly 10,000 a year? No seat belt law? Wow..collapsing bridges, buildings, explosions.... This is a modern country? Sounds more like a war zone or somewhere like the Congo. Did you know a good 200,000 women are involved in the sex trade in Korea? Koreans need to get real.

  • For you to say I don't know my own people, is a little insulting, but understandable. Yes Koreans will be nice to foreigners once you give them the chance. Yes, Koreans (at least mothers) are devoted to their children and family, but Koreans couldn't give two shits about another fellow Korean, unless they have something to gain from them. My friend witnessed a man get stabbed on a bus due to an altercation with another guy and die in his arms will nobody called the police and just ran off.

  • I never accused you of bashing Korea. I just think your view on Korea is too one-sided or warped for lack of better words. I too am 1.5 and of course, lot is to do with ones own experience in dealing with any country or culture. What you consider Koreans not giving shit about other Koreans is a very few isolated incidences. If Koreans really didn't give a shit, crime rate in Korea couldn't be lower than US or even Canada.

  • And yes, Korea probably ranks no 1 in vehicle accidental death amongst OECD countries. You talk about war zone? You know how many gun related death occur in the US? What is this a wild wild west? I don't know how accurate your sex trade no' are. But what country doesn't have prostitutes? In fact, I for one think Korea should make it more legal and zone them more properly, like they do in Holland.

  • Nice to chat with another 1.5. No, you never accused me of bashing Korea... I actually admitted it. You accused me of 'not knowing my own people'. I was born in Korea (left at 2), lived over a year there, met my native Korean wife of 9 years there, have done business with Koreans as an insurance agent and live basically in the Koreatown of my city, Vancouver. I also visit Korea every 2nd year and are fairly fluent in Korean as my wife doesn't speak english, so I kind of knowing my stuff...

  • Yes, my arguments are skewed against Korea but day in day out I have seen 1st hand how petty and unethical Koreans can be. You wouldn't believe that can of bs I got handed to me working with them and what my wife has to deal with working at Korea Exchange bank here. Yes Korea has very low violent crime rates, but white collar crime is another story. Sure it happens all over the world, but in Korea it is so prevalent and institutionalized it's not really even considered a crime it's that bad.

  • You still have not explained the ridiculous catastrophic events that have gone on Korea. N. Americ in spite of all its problems is a true land of opportunity. In Korea if you are poor chances are you will stay poor. Distribution of wealth is another major problem. 20 years of massive growth and still hardly a middle class. Skyrocketing divorce and suicide rates (talents included) skyrocketing consumer debt, highest even BEFORE the current crisis, highest mva fatalities in the G20....

  • I guess experience are different for everyone Forex. I left Korea when I was 13 and went back every year to visit my extended family as well as to work with Koreans directly on biz. I have been screwed over by plenty Koreans but then I've been screwed over by Australian company as well as China and Taiwan. Believe me bud, white collar crime in the US is far far worse than anywhere in the world. Have you not seen Lehman, AIG and others fall like autumn leaves? With CEO's devoid of moral codes

  • but just by looking at history, you can trully see how united our people are. The only country in OECD with less than 1% illiteracy rate, and such a prideful country. and yes, that can lead to bad things as well. About witnessing a man getting stabbed, thats funny. Korea is also the country with least crime rate and one of the best policing. Although, the law sucks and they make mistakes over and over again letting go murderers. I must agree Korea has to be the most dangerous

  • Well, me also being Korean Canadian, but for sure, knowing Korea a lot more than you probably do, i agree on many parts. I also really dislike korean govt, full of greed and secrets. but that is same with every country. about koreans not giving shit about another, you have heard of what 'jung' is right? That word, my friend, exists only in korea in the whole world. Its the warmth that unites all koreans when in times of need. I totally understand we can be backstabbing bitches

  • country for women nowadays, with all the serial killers around the country, its kinda scary. about vehicle fatalities, i mean, thats understandable. Korea is a tiny country, with lots of people, lots of cars. Korean people tend to be high tempered, always wanting to go fast, hence leading to car accidents. by the way, there is a law for seat belt... i dont know where you got that from. When was the last time you heard of collapsing bridges and buildings? that doesnt happen in other countries?

  • Brianious, FYI in case you didn't know...YES bridges, dept stores and gas lines do not explode or collapse in SUPPOSEDLY advanced or modern countries such as Korea. When was the last time? Why does that matter? They all happened in the last 10 years or so... What is your point? That is like saying the US hasn't had a 911 in the past 7 years so the US is safe... Idiotic. Korea's economy is even worse off now than the IMF era and predicted to SHRINK by 2 - 6% which is worse BRUTAL.

  • You do realize Korea leads the world in so many things, probably the only thing they need to really fix is the fucking silly ass government. You realize Korean companies build the tallest towers in the world, Dubai towers for instance. Sampoong, Sungsu, yes. those happened, and i lived near Sampoong, was in korea at the time. Korea struggled with IMF and got over it, now they face same problem again. I know, for a fact, that they will go through this problem again all together.

  • Brianious...what EXACTLY DOES Korea lead the world in? Semiconductors, lcd screens maybe ok? Korea has many things to be proud of for sure, but too often Koreans go overboard on their patriotism and are blind to the serious issues the country faces. Sure reunification would be great, but South Koreans don't want it because it will mean hardship for the South and set them back at LEAST 20, probably 30 years. Koreans need to come together now more than ever before to help their fellow brothers.

  • If you're talking nationalism, sure I acknowledge it rampant in Korea but is Korea the center of it all? No. Koreans don't beat up Americans or stone their shop if because their government allowed contaminated beef in. I bet many red blooded Americans would if the situations were reversed. As for reunification, yes South Korea no longer want one sided unification after seeing devastating effect on West Germany. They want North to grow its economy before unifying.

  • Here's how Seoul could attract tourists:

    1. clean up the trash on the streets

    2. create parks through urban planning

    3. remove neon signs and other eye sores

    4. close Seoul's open sewers to prevent unpleasant odors

    5. create stricter zoning laws to avoid more cookie-cutter apartment complexes. Keep residential, business areas separate.

  • Your assessment is bang on my friend. Seoul is a chaotic city. Koreans by nature are not orderly people. They hate planning and prefer to do things on the fly. They are also always in a hurry. I would add inadequate, filthy toilet facilities to your list, many of which will clog if you try to flush down toilet paper.

Seoul is not a world class city. There is a reason why Seoul ranks 10th among the most populated cities in Asia. Take it from a Korean Canadian who has lived there before.

  • Chaotic and not orderly... perhaps when compare to the Japan and German standard perhaps. But it's really subjective. Downtown S.F and other major cities in US, France or in UK are not cleaner than Seoul. They are actually dirtier. Koreans may not be orderly but with the population they have, Seoul and Korea overall has one of the lowest crime rate in the world. How many cities in the US and Europe can you walk around safely at night all by yourself?

  • Your point about Seoul being one of the safest in the worlds I cannot argue, but based on quality of life (number of hospitals, pollution, rent, food, fuel costs, job opporutnities etc.) Seoul still ranks poorly compared to all the other developed mega-cities in the world and those numbers are COMPLETELY objective. Those are the same numbers that placed Seoul DEAD LAST among cities IN ASIA, let alone the entire world.

Being safe is pretty much the only thing Seoul has going for it.

  • Agree that quality of life in terms of cost of living is something that needs to be improved. And yes, job opportunity and educational environment has lot to be desired. However, I currently live in SIngapore and before that I lived in the US, Philippines and spent time in other Asian cities. Public transport in Seoul is one of the best and the cheapest. Housing isn't bad compared to other developed cities. Medical Insurance and service is one of the best I've seen

  • Yes Seoul has a relatively efficient transportation system and the certain things like alcohol and eating at a Korean restaurant are cheap (where in the world can you get a bottle of hard liquor, soju, for $1 US?).

Your perspective of Seoul is, I'm assuming, fairly well to do foreigner. You probably didn't have to raise a family in Korea. You probably didn't have to bust your ass so your kids could have the possibility of a decent life and put up with the bs and corruption that is Korea.

  • Well that's the most sticking point isn't it? And reason why most Koreans decide to migrate to another country. The cost of raising and educating kids. That is the single most worst kind of environment. Way way too competitive and the cost is exorbitant.

  • The thing that bothers me most about Korea is the attitudes of Koreans. I am just as proud as any Korean about what Korea accomplished in such a short period of time but those accomplishments tarnish Korea's image because it somehow gives Koreans the right to act like 'the American's of Asia' when they live or travel abroad (aka the 'ugly Korean'). Koreans no respect for basic laws and ethics and always look for ways to cheat the system or other people, often their own relatives. I

  • Frankly, Korean society is really sick and disturbed if you ask me, especially the rich. Korean news if filled with nothing but corruption and injustice. Even though 2/3 of Koreans are Catholic or Christian, it is morally bankrupt (less so than Japan though). The average hard-working Korean person gets screwed on a daily basis by a system dominated by the rich. Koreans are not compassionate people, they have lowest rates of charitable giving and blood donorship in the civilized world.

  • Forexdragon, I don't know how long you lived in Korea and tried living in other asian cities as well as western. I used to think like you. Korea indeed has its own share of problems as you said. But it's really not as bad as you think it is compared to other countries. And of course, if you focus on those things, you can complain till cows come home. U think the US is any different in terms of many rich people devoid of ethics? Or in any other country? Wake up and smell the coffee.

  • This offers an interesting and fresh perspective of Seoul and South Korea in general. The footage is crisp, clear and high res. Thanks for the data and keep it rollin'.

  • all these major asian countries (especially japan, s.korea, and now china) are so developed. only india is left behind

  • yep...I realized that just now by this video!

  • 개념좀 달아..ㅡㅡ 서울이 좋나봐,,

  • japanese electronics industry is even smaller than korean. but i strongly agree with that it's like a fantasy.

so much animation things everywhere and all the things are sooo fency.

    anyways nice :)

  • wheres part1?

  • i ask the same..

  • I ask the same too!

Where is the part one Nick??

  • Any nation-hater is blind/ignorant.

Germany has a very strong economy, in terms of actual GDP they are higher than South Korea.

No country is better than another just because of purchasing power or development. We are all people, and as people we should consider ourselves equal.

Btw S. Korea is one of the most developed nations in the world, just in case misinformed ppl want to stupidly bash on that.

  • Fucking Japan, Fuck Damn.

How do you feel now ? LOL

Don't fukn diss others if you dont want your own nation to be dissed.

  • Sorry for all the other Japanese people. I didn't mean what I said. I just wanted to show how rude it was for Osakahd to say such things towards other countries (not necessarily South Korea).

    I like Japan too

  • Porsche* so korea is far away to be one of the top nations.

  • wtf. ur company semen shit is bullshit. korea nsamsugn LG hyundai kia lotte etc is better. germany is a fukin piece of shit nazi motherfukin ountry. ur fuking language sounds like ur tryin to get mucas out of ur throat

  • hey! korea2samsung2lg. did the man say a bad word? or he did sth bad to you? why are you so offensive?

don't be like that. that's one of the reasons why many foreigners think S.Korea is a poor country and rude

  • likely he started it...and he fired back...as you may not know korea is one of the top shipbuilders and top strongest economies in asia...the reason why korea has a weak economy is because it suffered alot of wars and obviously germany went through the same thing...s korea is smaller to china, india, and russia so you have to think..wow for a small country it makes a lot of money!

  • Germany is the best coutnry in the world!

    Who made VW?SIEMENS?ADIDAS?BMW?MERCEDES?

Germans of course!!We are the economic power in Europe ;).Germany > Korea accept this.

  • Germany is good nation and powerful country. also, We S.Korea is developed nation. But many ppls don't Know about S.Korea. one point Because it is bad effect of North korea(kim jung ill). S.KOREA have 11th economic power. but many ppls don't know about it. anyway, I like Germany

  • I would say whatever you just said is fucking retarded because you obviously don't know something called Comparative Advantage and Absolute Advantage. In addition, you're only talking about VERY small items. Each country has its own character thats better than other countries. That's why trade exists.

  • Germany is far from the best LOL it isnt even as good as Japan.. who made Sony? Nintendo?Toyota? NEC? Toshiba? Honda? Mazda? Lexus? Infiniti? Fujitsu? Mitsubishi? Nikon? Seiko? Panasonic? Sanyo? Sega??

See.... Japan has far more companies than what germany could ever dream of.... not sure about korea though.

  • Sure. You name it. Japan has most. Bet'ya that the cell phone you have is Korean. Maybe from Nokia or America but Samsung and LG holds the most cellphones.

  • My cell phone is NOT korean and neither is it american, i use a sony ericcson and it wasn't made in either of those countries. korea hasn't got nothing on Japan. Do you know that Japan has the worlds most advanced mobile data market?

Or the fact that Japan has the most advanced mobile technology on earth? korea is also ahead but they can't compare to japan's mobile market.

...btw korea has tried to immitate japan on nearly every level...

  • When did Korea try to imitate Japan?... Wow. Japanese are the ones who are known for being good at plagiarising. Don't tackle me on spelling and become a sissy. You're even from United Kingdom so I doubt you know much than I do. You don't even learn much about asia. You don't even know the whole story between China,Korea,Japan. If you want to become Japanese wanna be then go head. I don't like the fact that you think Korea is a shit place which doesn't have anything good.

  • 1. I didn't say that korea is a shit country.. it's a great country... i was only making a point...

    2. My dad is japanese, i can speak japanese and have lived there for sometime & i am well aware of japan's history and their feuds with other asian nations... just cos i live in the UK doesn't mean i don't know about my father's land.

  • "Japan has far more companies than what germany could ever dream of.... not sure about korea though. " You are a person that centers only on things you know... Its just that you know Japan more than Korea. What does England have? I would be glad to learn about your country. ^^?????. Koreans made seedless watermelon, cloning sheeps, etc. They probably make the best monitors. Look at Samsung. Most poeple admires it. Its not like Japan has everything. Shame on you for not knowing any about urcountry

  • Yeah samsung is a great company but everyone knows that Sony is more prestigious. No?

Plus, neither of my parents are from england...so ask an englishman about what england has... i don't know...

  • btw...i'm the same person with a different account & USERNAME.... teej70 is my second..haha

  • Oh. Ok. I've mistaken the whole thing. You seem like an innocent guy. Sorry about the whole thing. I get mad on some stuffs because I understand it MY way. lol. Sorry.

  • Japan is the World leader in Technology and Automobile everyone knows that. Korea is good but Japan is the Best.

S.Korea is #1 in terms of digitalization.

Have you been in Japan? You have no idea how their Technology far surpases all. It's like a Fantasy world. Im don't live there but i saw it.

  • sorry, typo. :|

  • No offense (to you or Japan or Korea or the U.S.), but Finland has the most advanced mobile technology in the world as in the year 2006/07.

  • And we're in 2008... get a clue!

  • .....

  • this guy is Chinese.(not Finland)

look at his favorite videos =]

  • thats not true you forget about HTC, Sony Ericcson, Atom, MWG, Palm, Motorola, Sanyo, Asus, kyocera, BlackBerry. Samsung and LG don't hold the most cellphones.

  • haha..cool video^^ thanks

  • ha ha ha, I see Koreans hitting those video punching bags all the time. In most cases they are usually plastered. You should have taken a video of same game where they kick the soccer ball.

  • Korea is a great nation.

  • strong punches haha. i suck at that game :p

  • Hey! Thanks so much for the video... I enjoyed it very much.. sounds like you had fun in Seoul.. I live in Seoul and I love the city...

  • Why did wikipedia have to set up their meeting in Korea during the middle of Chinese new year? Bet there werent many asians at that conference.

  • There wasnt any wiki meet up or conference in Korea while we were there.

  • awesome

  • haha, shit nic i hope you interviewed some actual koreans? lookin good tho man.

  • ha, they were out of town for chinese new year...

  • they're out of town to be with their families just as American during Christmas. They celebrate lunar new year as known as Korean new year in Korea.

interesting videos, hope to see the doc someday.

  • How does carry all that heavy equipment?!?
