  • You sir are AWESOME!!!

  • 5 to 10 min??? Yeah right. Mine has been hunting for several hours now. and it's about 1/6th done on a 320g Macpro? WTF

  • I am currently recovering deleted files in an external drive with the hopes of recovering a particular .mov (video) file. It was deleted in my friend's PC. Now, it's recovered but it's in .jpg format, not in its original .mov format. Can it still be recovered in .mov format? The recovery process is still going on right now. Please, I need answers.

  • On Windows PC you place a file called photorec_sorter in the same directory as the "recup_dir#" directories and it will sort through all those tens of hundreds of thousands of files into their file types MP3 MPG WMV AVI JPG etc

I think Linux had the same equiv. in a python script but i'm not sure.

  • Thaaaanks!

  • Hey, so I ran photorec and recovered what I needed and deleted the rest. But now my comp is running ridiculously slow... Any ideas how to fix this?

  • can i use this program for my ipod???

  • YOU DONT KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU RIGHT NOW!!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE!!!!!! .. =D

  • I guess this doesn't work for Mint 10??

  • Hi Nick,

my ext hdd was asking me to format when i plugged in but i had heaps of data in it almost 1TB. i used photorec as im using win 7. it created around 364 files. how to join them so that i can see my other stuff?? can you please suggest me any other things??

    thanks in advance.

  • Kool, thanks man.

  • I ran it, and it created around 330! recover folders, I asked for free memory, and I hoped for a few files not this huge amount.

Anyway I ran search on the files an it seems that it didn't recover the files that I actually looked for, what can I do?

  • I used photorec on a 1tb drive that didn't have an operating system on it. I used it as my backup drive and just had it organized with folders with all different kinds of data. Like photo, videos and music.

When it restored it restored 3 large files as .swc files. When I say large I mean 50+gigs each.

I am not sure how to decode those files or if I need to delete them and try something else.

Also, do you know if photorec writes on the drive?

  • And I mean the recup folders. :)

  • thanks my friend!!!

After they are recovered, how do you delete the ones you dont need? Because my computer wont delete them.

  • this really work very well thank buddy will check more of you vids for more info.

    once again thanks :)

  • i run it for a couple of hours but it said it needed at least 300+h(on an external driver of 320 GB) ,i saw on ur video there was as an estimated time for achieving 13h but u said it lasted for 1-2 mins?

does it differ from ubuntu to windows?

  • Really helpfull, thanks :)

  • Please make a video about how to delete the root files this thing creates!

  • I "received" 21 recup_dir files mostly containing text that I can not delete?? There is a lock on the folder how do I delete them?

  • Uh.. i did this and i got a bunch of random files but not 1 that i wanted :S.

  • @ExtremeShadowz Try the other app from same company?

  • Thanks very much for your information!, but, it just recovered 19 MB of text files and i was looking for a .avi of 347MB.

    Saludos!

  • any idea how to use photorec when i cant boot from a usb?

i can get into the bios but it wont let me boot from a usb

and i have no cd/dvd drive on my laptop.

  • Hey, photorec recovered pictures as text files. Is that mean that those are corrupted? Is there any way to open up those text files as pics? Using Windows or Mac.

  • valeu cara muito bom, obrigado

man, great , thanks very thhanks...

  • i have a file, i mean a whole project, how i find this back?

  • how far back will it recover?

  • thanks thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @BianchiFabricio You are welcome.

  • Same way I did it too :o) ... but I still pissed, 'cause I have had a NTFS partition mounted into home directory, I wanted to delet my home folder and I've forgotten, that it's mounted ... rm -r, ... FUCK! 90 GB out ... And now, I have 182 directories with recovered files without names ... What can I do now ... nothing :) I love better FS, that can "step back", because of log system on it. ... for example JFS can do it, I think ...

  • Nice
