They obviously needed help and the two men were a welcome sight. Squanto, decided to stay with the Pilgrims for the next few months and teach them how to survive in this new place. I love this story and the fact someone is still telling it. This is what I learned in school of Thanksgiving when I was very young and I heard the story change even as I moved through school. For all the accusations acedemia lodges at Bush of lying, perhaps they should consider doing a little better with the truth themselves. CRA- encouraged bad loans on people of low income with little or no money down. This caused banks to loose significent amounts of money. Union contracts have a thing called the rubber room. You get 95% of your pay for doing nothing instead of getting laid off. This is a massive cost with no productivity and they already have many retired workers. The CRA helped to feed the crisis, i know it was not the sole reason. It encouraged loans to people that were on a low income. And where does the discretionary fund come from? Who's money goes into it? In addition the benifits and retirement plans are also costly. Best thing for the auto industry would be for them to go through chapter 11 and reogranize.

You have failed to research. Before the CRA, there was a feeling that banks were being discriminatory towards minorities. The banks thought it too risky because most of them were poor. They called it red-lining.

The CRA was introduced to give incentives to banks that gave out loans to minorities. When the banks still wouldn't give out these sub-prime risky loans as frequently as minorities wanted, lawyers came in and tried to force banks to give them out. Obama was one of them.

Fast forward to the new millenium. Here the banks are giving out loans that they knew were risky because the lawyers would always win in favor of minorities. When people defaulted on those loans, Fannie and Freddie bought up the properties, and they just did the same thing but they had the backing of the taxpayer. Hardly any risk. Homes were still being bought by people that really couldn't afford them and Fannie and Freddie grew larger. Home sales and construction sky rocketed.

This caused a massive bubble. In 2005 - 2006, oil prices went up. Gas went up. Therefore, prices on everything went up. The people who had these risky loans that were just scraping by to begin with, started to default on their payments. Prices rose, taxes rose, and finally interest rates started to go through the roof causing the bubble to burst. It all started with the socialist concept of the CRA. There is a lot more in between this summary. Research it.

The first Thanksgiving as written in Bradfords journal was the winter after the landing. In 1621 The Indians supplied them with native corn that would grow where the seed from Holland wouldn't. They helped them in hunt for native fowl and fish from the streams they were now provided for winter.

Now the passage that Rush refers to is from 1628. What he is refering to is the agreement that the Pilgrims has with the the King of England for 7 years and the profits would go to the company.

Now after the debt was paid to the company. Bradford left the land divided and the profit now went to the individuals who grew their goods.

He dismisses that of the original 102 that 46 died in the first winter. And without the assistance of the Indians (Pop Popcorn LOL) that the rest may not have survived.
