Every Theem from seasons 5 to 14 were exolent. I'll have to admit, every time a new season premeared I looked forword to what the theem was going to sound like and if it would be good or not. My least favorites would have to be seasons 1 through 4. 11 and 12 were aaverige but 12 was not the greatest.
I thought Knot's Landing scrolling credits were amazing in their day and they still look impressive today, a real credit to the talent going into all aspects of the production. Warner Brothers is absolutely idiotic for not releasing the entire series as a boxed set. Of course the first two didn't sell that well, A. The show was just starting to hit it's stride in Season 3 and B. Fans were afraid exactly what would happen happened, they released a few seasons then quit.
If I had been watching at this time I would have had a big campaign to keep Abby/Gary and Ben/Val together. Such underrated couples and they freshened the show up.
I love that one of the last parts of the opening uses that montage from the episode where Abby has to decide about giving Diana part of her liver (or something). It was an exquisite montage. For me Abby looking out from her beach house is one of the iconic KL memories.
@LeeTheThird Season 6 was the best season ironically (well to me anyway) had the worst version of the theme! LOL well that and seasons 9, 11 and 12. By 13 I had given up but at least that had returned to using the sliding pictures. By 14 I had a pleasant surprise.
Since she had already been a regular cast member from the start, I can't understand why they waited until this season to add Claudia Lonow to the credits. It seemed pointless anyway, because her character was written out, at the beginning of Season six....Good riddance too!
ElJefeNLA, I cannot decide which is my favorite. Season 5 is definitely the strongest, but I thought that Season 4 was very good also. I noticed you did not comment on 4. I also hated all versions from Seasons 9 on. When I was a kid, I had my parents tape the theme songs for me on a Fisher Price tape player. I had no interest in the actual shows, but liked the music. Each season, they would re-record for me. When Season 9 got recorded OVER 5, 6, or 7 (erasing the original) I was so upset.
Season 5 uses the opening music to its best potential compared to other seasons. It is stronger, full of lots of instruments and reaches those high parts. Seasons 8 and 9 used weaker versions of the theme music. Always pissed me off the way Knots had to play around with the theme every season, while other shows like Dallas kept the original untouched - the way viewers want it!
But that was the beauty of it. I always looked forward to "remixes" each season. However, I hated the season 6 version, I loved the Season 7 (1st Version), I liked Season 8 only because it was "new" I hate season 9 with a burning hot passion, but was won over with the season 10 remix. Season 11 total wash, 12 was ok, 13 too sleepy, and 14 because it was 90's version of season 5 but still weak.
@ANDREWMUZAK I think this version was one of the best too, but if they'd kept the original like Dallas we'd never have ended up with this wonderful version.
I wasn't much of a soap fan back then, but watching this makes me appreciate the 80's a bit more now - especially knowing that shows out now like Gossip Girl and the OC couldnt compare to these.
I loved the opening presentation to "Knots Landing." Brilliant Balance And Spontaneity!! Impressive!! High Energy!! A Fat 6!! The opening credits to the show from the 1983-1984 Television Season would rank in a tie for tops -- along with the opening clip from the 1991-1992 Television Season. I like Actor William Devane ... not to mention Actress Stacy Galina.
I like the upbeat versions of the theme songs. I like the beginning theme because of course, it was the launching pad for these ones. I can't wait to see the 2nd season of knots, which is when it began to have the hallmarks of the show which we know today
Unless there's been a recent change there isn't going to be any more release of knots due to poor sales...there are people online who sell the episodes though that's how i got mine
Yeah this was a great opener and was the new "Knots Landing" as they let go all of the original cast members except for 4 and went from an hour self contained drama to an all out soap and brought in Sumner.
Gotta give them an "A" for longevity and the ability to change with the times though. In the late 70's and early 80's the one hour drama was popular but then it was the soap thing that took off. Many shows didn't change and therefore got cancelled.
Seasons 1 through 4 were the best themes

@ANDREWMUZAK you're wrong, Dallas remixed each season too, just not as drastically as Knots did.

Joan Van Ark is a fox. At age 50 something she is still very sexy.

They slowed it down a little in season 6 maybe because of the new characters if any

I was a MAJOR KNOTS fan! This was my favorite opening music - the show was a must on Thursdays - and still is great fun to re-watch!
