  • Oh, and December 8th was the day this video was originally recorded. The speech was given the day after the bombing.

  • I love how many of you people call yourselves "humanitarians" and "peace-loving people" and flaunt out the fact that you support the TWO nukes and how much damage they've done.

  • @Zeldafan114 Ok I know you are joking and everything but it was ALOT more complicated than that. Yes we had numerous of losses but the Japanese Empire suffered a great more loss. There wasn't just one nuclear bombed dropped. One on Hiroshima and one on Nagasaki.

  • well maybe you should know all of the facts before you make stupid comments. the United States, after World War I, had decided to become a neutral country, and not interfere with other conflicts. After the attacks on Pearl Harbor we decided that Japan, and Hitler, both needed to be defeated to restore peace in the world.

  • December 8, 1989 = My birthday i feel lucky

i love this speech this guy was a good man

  • its not the 8th its december 7 1941

  • The adress was on the 8th the day after the bombing.

  • FDR in great new bio (Ted Kennedy: The Early Years) at amazon!

  • Conspiracy Theories: It was either Illuminati, or aliens.

  • Roosevelt was bettee than Carter.

  • my mother-in-law was there(bless her soul)when it happened.

  • tee hee

  • God bless the U.S.A!

  • for all u people who say that Pearl Harbor was a conspiracy ur full of crap. Read a REAL BOOK why dont ya!

  • Not that I blieve in conspiracies but whenever I see Tora, Tora, Tora or read about the Pearl Harbor attack, one has to wonder if there was anyone in the military who was not an idiot.

A Japanese submarine was seen near a US military base and no one thought to sound an alarm until an hour later and still did not react to it.

  • The American that were seeing the radars in case enemies wanted to attack, saw the airplanes, but thought that they were American war jets coming from California as had been scheduled. It turned out that the jet transfer from California to Hawaii was canceled, but the men in watch, didn't know that so they got confused.

  • OK Thanks for the clarification. I appreciate that.

  • war jets lol you mean B-17's...

  • Yeah, well B-17 are war jets of some sort.

  • Um, no they aren't. B17s had piston-driven propeller engines, not jet engines.

  • fine, replace jet with plane, and quit being a dickhead.

  • Are you replying to me? Think you got the wrong guy...

  • no, the guy that had to point out that the "war jets" in fact didn't have jets, but propellers.

  • Good one

  • GOD BLESS AMERICA!! The Eagle awoke and dropped two eggs over Japan!

  • Comment removed

  • @Faztlan left wing and right wing both belong to that eagle, who is the head of the eagle?

  • There was a warning of the attack coming to pear harbor before it happened, but you have to blame the u.s. postal service for it not getting there. It was sent on regular military mail and the commanding officer there was out golfing.

  • too relaxed, believing Hawai'i too far from Japan to be a target for all-out attack. Like Roosevelt's adviser's, they expected an assult againt British Malaya, Thailand, or the Philippined. The Pearl harbor calamity stemmed from mistakes and insufficient information, not from conspiracy.

  • To all those people who say the U.S new about the Japs, American cryptanalysts had broken the Japanese diplomatic code. Although the intercepted told the policymakers that war lay ahead, the intercepts never revealed naval or military plans and never specifically mentioned PEARL HARBOR. The base at Pearl Harbor was not on red alert becasue a message sent from washington warning of the imminence of war had been to casually transmitted by a slow method and had arrived to late. Base commanders were

  • I want to say thanks for taking the time to upload this clip. I am a high school history teacher. It adds so much to my classroom to allow my students to see & hear the words spoken. Know that your time was well spent & every student who passes through my class each year will see your video.

  • YouTube: "THE BONES OF STATION H"

    Google: "The McCollum Memo"

    Wikipedia: "McCollum memo"

YOU!! Yes, YOU!! Stop continuing to be an IGNORANT FOOL of FDR. The only "DELIBERATE PLAN" was the one FDR was secretly executing upon the Japanese ("The McCollum Memo", aka: "THE EIGHT INSULTS").

"SNEAK ATTACK" and IJN Fleet "RADIO SILENCE" are US Government MYTHS, to rally US People into entering WWII on UK side against Germany (and Japan)... and they (and you) fell for it, "HOOK-LINE-AND-SINKER"!!

  • You should read "At Dawn We Slept" by Gordon W. Prange. Published in 1981 it is a painstakingly complete investigation of the Pearl Harbor attack. Unlike Robert Stinnet, Prange shows that many of the intercepts that Kimmel and Short did not receive in late November early December '41 were not translated or received in Hawaii by 12-7-41 so they couldn't have impacted their decisions. This was due to restrictions on communicating classified material at the time, which had to be flown to Wash D.C.

  • "BLACK CHAMBER" already had IJN JN25B Crypto Code cracked way back in 1940, and was intercepting, translating into English, and providing DAILY SUMMARY to FDR the whole time.

The only person performing any "DECEPTION" and "LIES" was FDR!!

  • (continued) and then flown back to Pearl Harbor. Remember, air travel top speed back then was about 150-200 mph, and the decoding was done by hand and brainwork of some very overworked language specialists (no computers back then either). As for deceptions and lies, Roosevelts were but a molehill, compared to Japans ...Mt. Nitaka!

  • It helps when you say what you mean. It was done that way for a specific use, not to be played alone.

  • This is such an important speech in American history, and it is so cheapened by playing it backwards in slow-motion, like a cheap Lindsay Lohen movie. Please can you just play it as he said it?

  • Huh?? Watch it again when you've sobered-up!

  • Watch it again from 00:15, dopey. You've made him repeat it THREE times.

Although I guess you weren't too keen on him getting to the bit where he talks about a possible war against Germany, right?:)

  • My kid brother got access to my account for the last message, I did not post that. PLEASE IGNORE THE LAST POST FROM THIS ACCOUNT. Thanks

  • No problem!! Feedback is always good!! I had forgotten it was edited that way.

  • When will we learn that constructive competition works a lot better than destructive competition? Maybe in a couple of thousand years, if there's anyone left by then?

  • Exactly, our species would not have gotten this far if it wasn't for constructive competition and co-operation at most levels.

  • Its human nature mate, this is a dictator in the works, Power makes Jelousy, Jelousy makes Greed, Greed makes you steal (Ex: Conquering another country's land), Stealing makes Enemies, Enemies make battles, Battles make Wars go figure, lmao

    go figure, lol

  • Actually, our Chinese intelligence department got japanese code and interpreted it successfully. our Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek informed the American ambassador at the first time that USA would be attacked by imperial Japan. however, Americans did not trust us and missed the only opportunity to prevent this tragedy. anyways, japs kicked American cowboys' ass and was beaten the shit out. that is good.

  • Tell me how the slope heads kicked our ass? Please elaborate...... The japs are filthy murderers, ask the people of Nanking.... Japs are lower than the dogs they eat!

  • And speaking, I think, as an American. (not a cowboy) is this "good" I will "bow" to your argument and say that a lot of "acts" that were committed in the vein of "National Security." were stupid, such as internment of "japanese Americans" ET. AL. "our" general chiang kai shek, (capitols ommited for contempual purposes." America rallied, against (TOTALITARINISM) in the sake of relionginism, and nationalism, for HUMANISM and FREE WILL. Is it "good, we kicked back, through such extreme methods?

  • Keep dreaming slope......

  • The Japs would have used the A bomb on us if they had it first!

  • It was still a terrible option. More lives were lost than were necessary. Eh, at least it ended it.

    Japan: "DIE U.S. DIE!"

U.S: "TAKE THIS YOU YELLOW BASTARDS!"

    *U.S. drops A bomb*

    *Japan stares in shock*

    Japan: "0.o OKAY WE SURRENDER!"

  • ZIPPTPH77, the Japanese were never trying to get an atomic bomb -- it was the United States and Nazi Germany. Obviously Germany did not succeed.

Zeldafan114, if we did not drop the bomb we would have had to invade Japan and many more lives would be lost on both sides than there were this way. Also, at the time we did not have a very good knowledge of the effects that the radiation would have on humans.

  • The Japanese had a small atomic program, but they did not put much stock into it.

  • Nope, not the Hawaii Attack. That one was indeed secret. If you have any doubts to that, keep in mind that the Japanese communicated via flashligts on the way to Hawaii, no radio transmittions were sent.

  • On the contrary, there was no "radio silence" as it is commonly maintained. Read "Day of Deceit" by Robert Stinnett for a summary of recently declassified materials that debunks this. The attack fleet was tracked all the way to Peal Harbor.

  • FDR knew of the attack, there is no way this was a surprise. The deaths of others was his platform to start war.

  • I believe FDR had an idea that the "Japs" might attack, so he just had some idea. He didn't know, so he gave America like a little warning I believe I read. Could be wrong.

  • he didn't want the world to think of America as cowards, he wanted to play with the big boys too,he said the Japanese, Germans, Chinese r calling us cowards.Innocent bloodshed for the sake of politics, gotta be a man.

  • Actually the Government was pretty sure they would attack. They just thought it would start in the Phillipins or another island closer to japan.

  • jjajajajjaj... i think ur comment was on the wrong page...lol

  • I think I was replying to bushgam, who insisted that Pearl Harbor was all a conspiracy and that FDR evilly led the Japanese into a trap. I was trying to imply that bushgam is deluded. Irony, that kind of thing.

  • what about the Japanese American or other Asian American soldiers that got treated like shit in the U.S. military that fought for and died for these American motherfuckers. If it were negros they would talk about them.1 soldier recalled the commander pulling him out and telling his fellow comrades "this is how the enemy looks like" racist fucks.

  • Blame the government, not "we the people."

  • Many white ppl marched to demonstrate hate for the "Jap-American Rats" and send them to internment.Yeah, should've followed the motto, "blame the Jap gov't, not we the Japanese-Americans".

  • what about the Japanese American or other Asian American soldiers that fought for and died for these American motherfuckers. If it were negros they would talk about them.

  • Total war is hell ain't it? before you start going off on the "honerable japanese military" try reading up on the rape of Nanking and how they treated their POW's.

  • who said anything about the honorable Japanese military.I know alot of them were brutal, just like the Russians and Germans.I was talking about the Japanese Americans. There is a difference u know.

  • They blamed Asians esp.JapAmericans and ripped them of everything and sent them to internment. Now u see what happened on 9/11 and guess what Muslims get to be on t.v. standing behind a U.S. flag talking about how their American and illegal Mexicans r welcomed if it was Asians they would send us back.FUCK ALL YA'LL. Fuck u Roosevelt.

  • lol, and some stupid fucks like michelle malkin, thought it was a good idea

  • Asians who immigrated to Latin America and Canada & lived there for centuries were also sent to internment in the U.S.oh don't even get me started on Michelle Malkin, I hate that bitch.

  • Ha and most of you are wrong 12/8 nope peral harbor took place on 12/7 get your story strait. I know cause I've been to peral harbor and seen the arizona and more.

  • paulgallagher13 you are wrong too read my first comment.

  • trust me and my comment everyone. I have talked to peral harbor survivors. i have also done countless hours of reasureh for projects.

  • Ahhh bosco how wrong you are you know nothing about peral harbor the ambassador of japan tried to give us the message that there was going to be an attack and after the speech something went wrong, they could not translate it to english, and elerctriel messages went down. by the time it got to us the Japennesse had already hit us. So know you know that it was an eletrical error and they could not call off the attack. So tecanally it was an suprise attack but really wasent.

  • A whole network of Crytographers were sending decrypts to Washington indicating specific attack plans. The whole attack was a surprise to everyone except the top brass in Washington.

  • The evidence mounts that FDR and his cronies *knew* in advance of the attack and welcomed it as his door to war.

  • The only thing I think had to do with the government was the JFK asasination!!!!

  • What's with these stupid conpiracy people sayin "9/11 was a setup, 12/8 was a setup?". I even hear people saying that the Revolutionary War was a setup!!! I mean, they think everything we did with war or politics was a setup, people are crazy!!!!!

  • Pearl Harbour was not an inside job in the sense that Roosevelt and usa conspired with Japan to bomb Pearl Harbour but it was a set up in the sense that they have information that Japan were GOING TO ATTACK and done nothing, they allowed them to attack so they had an excuse to join the second world war.Don't you find it strange that the US fought Nazi Germany first then took on Japan.

  • Paul, we didn't "fight Nazi Germany first then take on Japan"; we were fighting them simultaneously for a long time. It just so happened that Hitler and the Nazis were defeated first.

  • This is just plain incorrect. Roosevelt not only went on in the speech to detail out WHICH enemy would get our most attention first, his strategy backed that up from Day-One. Most of our resources went to fighting the Nazis first, as both Churchill and Roosevelt thought that was the greatest threat. Thoroughly documented.

  • I am well aware of that. "It just so happened that Hitler and the Nazis were defeated first" was not one of the best choices of words admittedly, although you must admit that we were fighting the Nazis and the Japanese simultaneously for a long while, regardless of which theater we put the most effort into.

  • Oh, absolutely. But, for a number of reasons (allies' concerns, perceived menace, constituencies at home, etc.) the lion's share of materiel (no pun intended) went to help Britain beat Hitler, esp. for the first 2-3 years. In the South Pacific, the first priority was to stop the Japs in their tracks, hold them, then work our way back, island hopping. Midway started that ball rolling. The great distances in the SP theater made it slow going for a long time.

  • Franklin D. Roosevelt + hitler + stalin = bush

    infamy = usa

  • 12/8 was an inside job, man! Hello, I'm a 30 year old college drop out who smokes pot and lives in his parents' basement who runs a conspiracy site.

  • The past should not be forgotten nor exagerated...

Japan is a country offering a positive, peaceful intellectual future today. Idiots and zealots will

    always be among us.

  • Pearl Harbor was a set up. America didn't land on the moon. Aliens helped build pyramids. 9/11 was a set up. Kennedy was shot by communists. Hillary Clinton will be a good president.

  • Pearl Harbor a setup? lol.. You sound like a Neo-nazi republican. :)

  • se-up? lol... looks like extreme tunnelvision. Are u by any chance a neo-nazi or a taliban soldier?

  • pearl harber was set up get real people

  • Your a moron, let me guess, 9/11 was set up too. Dumbass.

  • Your right dude pearl harbor was not a setup nor was 9/11. I'm lucky we won world war II. I will put all my faith into the war on terror.

  • bullshit pearl harbor was not a setup.

  • ive got to admile the vested interests of the time, then there out of nowhere was a great man, sure he did a big dirty, but at least were not goose stepping now to song that means were just white, were all right.

  • Roosevelt KNEW we were going to fight in the Second World War- it's just that he wasn't sure of the right moment to rally the country behind his intentions of doing so. The attack on Pearl Harbor was the catalyst. And he GOT his declaration of war, almost unanimously passed by the House and Senate, and had his signature on it less than three hours after he delivered this memorable speech. THE turning point for our country in the 20th century....

  • japan declared war on the US the day of Pearl Harbor and Germany declared soon later. It's not like he had a choice now did he?

  • You're correct. The only choice he had was to beat the fuck out of the militaristic Germans and Japanese of the times. Good choice, lol

  • He had much bigger fears then the war, your voteing on them all the time , except he is not there to lead you as to the right or wrong, the last free american president FDR

  • ya right

  • ALMOST unanimous...!

Even after Pearl Harbor there were some people who thought any entity can KILL Americans and Americans will just look passively... How safe or SMART was that!

True Roosevelt knew but it was clearly defined American people wanted to be isolationists. FDR would not help the axis by selling war materials. That is the biggest factor in the Pearl Harbor attack. Look toward the biggest picture America. The future is going to be tough. History is a lesson.

  • As it goes elements of FDR's govt and the intel community knew very well to expect an attack in the Pacific from imperial Japan. It would provide a pretext for entering the war. Like WTC attacks... yes

  • There is little proof of a 'back door' entry! Hitler had no reason to aid Japan. The defensive agreement was that Hitler was to come to the aid of Japan if it were attacked. Japan did the attacking so Germany did not have to come to its aid. Many leaders in Germany were surprised by the decision to go to war with the US. Japan was a thankless ally for Germany. Obviously the US wanted war and was even firing back at German ships in the Atlantic! But there is no back door connection!

  • Same shit as 911

  • Big difference, we were asleep at the wheel regarding Pearl Harbor. Bush knew 9/11 was coming and did nothing about it.

  • he knew..... he knew?????

how the hell was he sopposed to know??!!

only the terroist and binladen knew untill they attcked!

and as for krobidank, FDR was a great president and he not only help win WW2, he also got the USA out of the deprersion. BWG and FDR were/are greta presidents

  • Bush or at least many in his administration knew something was coming, he may not have known the exact date, but there were several things going on the last six months before 9/11 that were very suspect -- especially from bin Laden himself on video and audiotape -- not to mention a bombing death of an opposition leader on 9/10/2001. By the way it is called a depression. And who is BWG?

  • sorry, i meant to put gwb (george w bush) and i dont like bush as mujch as when i put the last comment, hes not GREAT but there have been worse.

  • Roosevelt did not get the US out of the Depression!!! I love the man and know that! It took the industrial might of WW2 to get us out. Some programs were cancelled by World War 2 and some useless. He did give America confidence and morale. Both Bush and Roosevelt knew something might be coming. I think FDR knew more abount an attack(but not where) than Bush. Both had to know something was coming!

  • Actually, as Dannyboyjap has written, there were many hints we were going into war long before December 7, 1941. Hello, has no one ever heard of the Land-Lease program with Great Britian after the Germans attacked them back in 1940 and part of France was occupied? It was probably unpredictable as to when and exactly where the attack from Japan would come, but otherwise Dannyboyjap is correct.

  • I should have written, Lend-Lease, there. It was rather late at night when I wrote that. fmafan, I disagree with you Bush. I can't think of too much worse than GW Bush. But to each his own.
