  • 0:40 The guy looks down at his shoes and thinks 'Da-yum! These are my best shoes!' lol

  • I think this film is designed to be open to all ideas of individual interpretation. It's haunting and beautiful. I wonder, considering what I've just said, did anyone else feel that when he was describing the 'tree' that he had seen before he may have been describing a nuclear mushroom cloud - the clouds that made a noise as they moved, the swelling dark horizon, the drawing of all life from the ground, the grasping pulsing branches reaching up, the post apocolyptic world they exist in?

  • @DarkTealeaf Woah. I hadn't thought of it like that, and that's an amazing interpretation. Really nice.

  • @numbuh53 I hoped that someone might see what I was trying to say, what image his words, as much as the visuals, conjured up in my mind at least. Thank you for your consideration and kind comment.

  • VERY IMPORTANT, I am currently collecting emails and messages to send to Criterion in an effort to get a release of this film. Everyone, please contact me as soon as possible to support this wonderous film. SIncerly, Angel's Egg Coalition.

  • k, I really love this film (even tho I dunt fully understand) and I freakin love the animation and all, so I'm not criticizing when I say this but...can't the characters at least blink a little more often? xD

  • is that the evolution tree?

  • Well I have to agree. Mamoru Oshii made this film to express his brilliant imagination. All Hollywood cares about is exploiting talents and kicking them out once they have no further use of them.

  • wow i heard silence is the best answer, but this is ridiculous i didn't hear him say i promise

  • this film is a question posed too many times what is the meaning of existence of all these forms of life..so many have perished and become extinct why does dna and our physiology seek to preserve itself and are we mere slaves to our biological imperitive our flesh... i like smurfs

  • kinda creepy how everythings made out of bones and fossils.........def wouldnt wanna live there, let alone all by myself with some egg....

  • @rab1dsquirrel

Yes, ESPECIALLY when you have the egg with you. If something hatches from it, hell i wouldn't want to imagine what it would be.

  • @hjmndj And imagine when it hatches...... It would probably be hungry...... O_o

  • That speech he made is one of my favorite in film.

  • Agreed.

  • thats gotta be some super long arm he's got there. look at how high he reaches!

  • characters are dry and dull put beautifully drawn

  • anime always deal wif bible quotes~

  • Not always, but bible quotes are useful, at least from the old testament as they are widely known (and yes, I realise of fail it is of me to respond to a year old comment)

  • i'm amazed O_O this is the best art work for an anime movie I've ever seen in my life...

  • @AaleXxXandrA agree.

  • what really irritates me is stuff like this is frowned upon by the generall public because they actully have to use thier little brains to think about whats going on.Huge studios dont like becuse it dosent make big money.

  • Ye you are spot on basically. However sometimes there are standouts. Juno is currently at $70 million...low budget with Oscar calibur writing.

  • Yes, and other films such as Very Anny Mary (a low budget comedy) are finally becomig recognised.

Great film for those who love opera and Wales.

  • I so totally agree! Right ON!

  • @DementedDolphin

This movie was too slow. I mean, the first time I watched it, I nearly fell asleep. There were just too many really long pauses.

I guess one could argue that the pauses were supposed to slow your mind down and make you ponder, but I would argue the pauses were a means to make a bunch of limited animation last longer. I would have liked this more if it went by faster, or if the empty spaces were filled with more story.

  • @gokenshadow that shows that we people are living too fast . we want everything to happen fast

  • @DementedDolphin My only problem is when there's apparently nothing TO figure out and it never even begins to make sense. Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni made you have to think too...but at least it had some coherence.

  • If you think about it though, the world itself, is incoherent.

  • @UmatsuObossa

I absolutely loved Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, and it's a very dark anime as well, even darker than this movie

  • @DementedDolphin I think it matters more that those of us who DO love the film get to watch it at all, the general public doesnt have to like it, its simply a good film that only some people can enjoy

  • ok, i have most of the symbolism in this film down but what is with that tree! I don't get it, does it have something to do with the fact we see his bandages at this point near the tree, (we obviously, especially now know what this namless soldier represents) but what has it got to do with the tree, i understand it as a pretty big symbol in this movie but i dont get what the director is trying to explain any idea guys?

  • maybe a reference to the tree of kabbalah?

  • maybe the tree represents the tree of life. who knows, its a beautiful movie.

  • Captivated me.

  • brilliant, just as to be expected from oshii mamoru, i read about it in wikipedia before watching so i could understand the meaning of everything.

  • wow so how old is this film?

I need to own this :P

  • The entire higher quality film is on veoh.

  • Don´t you know where i can find de 1988 movie "in the aftermath:angels never sleep" i really want ti see it

  • D= OMFG!!! somebody knows that movie!, I meet this animation when I saw that, it has clips from Angel´s egg, actually they mix up animation with reallity and there´s a live action girl who is running everywere, and its supossed to be the girl who´s carryn the egg, in the movie that girl is an angel

  • i was looking for this film too. That's what i thought this film was, until i watched a few parts and realised that I had'nt seen the live action parts that I remember.

  • gracias por subirlo

    thank you for uploading.

    ^^

  • It's a very beautiful movie :) I watched long ago and I was looking forward to watch it again. every time I see it I found a new meaning inside ^_^

  • Thank you so much for uploading!

  • hows it looking so far guys?

  • Thanks for uploading. If Andre Tarkovsky or Terence Malick made an anime, it would be something like this.

  • @marinersfanfromny Groundbreaking, revolutionary, surreal film of all time, they should show at the Anthology film archives
