BINGO! If one is against modernism "per se" then that spectator is definitely gonna have problems. Remember the fuss over Chereau's Ring in '76? Five years later it was already a classic. One has to differentiate between GOOD modern and BAD modern - just as one has to differentiate between good classical and bad classical. At the end it's only about good and bad. Modernistic or classical (excuse my generalistic terminology) cant be a criteria to judge whether something is done well, or not!

Cathedrals were once modern architecture.
Why does modernism disturb you? Don't you want to be contemporary?
The world changes. Weltpolitik and psycho-sociological attitudes are different in the 21st century.
Finding new things to say about old art works seems to me a good idea.
