I wish they hadn't cut all of these scenes for several reasons. First of all, the movie was REALLY choppy, and they don't even SAY that William Carey died, so anyone who hadn't read the book was probably really confused because one minute she was married to William and then the next she was married to Stafford. Also, I think the title "The Other Boleyn Girl" doesn't just refer to Mary, it refers to Marry AND Anne always being in eachother's shadows, and this film needs more Mary.
I loved the book and I can't understand why they cut out all the scenes that would have made the movie a good adaptation, it's called the "other boleyn girl" not "anne boleyn" - without the scenes that were cut, the movie didnt make much sense at all, especially by cutting the William Stafford scenes which is the main part of Mary's story
William Carey died of a disease back then called "the sweat" (most likely a severe strain of influenza) in June 1528. Historians believe that Mary's two children (Catherine and Henry) were actually fathered by Carey, since because Henry acknowledged his other royal bastard, he had no reason not to acknowledge them, especially Henry.
That's what William means by saying, "He is not to be called Fitzroy?" It was the traditional surname for an English royal bastard at the time.
Before I watched this scene, I had no idea Carey died, which always made me think how Mary could have married Stafford. Anyway, now it makes sense. Anyway, I <3 Stafford, but Carey was a good man for Mary, too.
So, this is the grave scene where Mary stood @ 2:26... when I first saw the movie trailer, I assume it was Anne till I read that her grave was unmarked...
The book, (The Other Boleyn Girl), was from Mary's point of view. However, the producers of the movie decided to make it All About Anne. These scenes help prove my point, as most of the deletes seem to be about Mary -.-
Love the movie, even if it focused on Anne too much.
Really, the scene endears William to me. I don't dislike Stafford, but William's involvement in this scene shows (I think) that he really cares about Mary and wishes the baby was his. I guess he's just hurt that Mary cheated on him and regrets that that chunk of their marriage is gone.
I agree. If anything, it makes me feel sorry for him. The poor man was forced into a position he never wanted to be in and suffered for it greatly and in silence. As someone mentioned earlier, it is indeed a shame that he died when he did. They could've been happy.
I also more than agree that all these deleted scenes would have made the movie endlessly better. It seemed so random and rushed in its original cut and did no justice to either the book or history.
@RachelsNotDead Actually he agreed for Mary to sleep with the king in the first place and it was his own fault because if he hadn't Mary wouldn't have fallen for the king at all and they would have had their own children . Instead of her having the bastard son of the king
wow. the movie is short as it is. should've put this in? carey was a very important character, how could dey just cut his role in story off so quickly like dat. didnt even know he died, which made me wonder how mary could marry strafford when she was still wife to carey. god the editors of this movie suck ass!
I hate it when they cut important scenes, like in Queen of the Damned they deleted everything that related it to the book and made it worth watching. Who makes these stupid decisions??
oh i feel ever so sorry for him. If The king hadnt noticed Mary they could have been happy... but still at least she ended up with the right man even if he didnt..
I always thought her ending with William Stafford was too contrived. It is a pity Carey died when he did because I think he and Mary would have been happy together. As you may tell, I'm not a huge fan of Stafford ; )
William felt very badly about allowing Mary to be the kings mistress, but he literally had no choice. The Howards (one of the most powerful families in England at the time) commanded it, as did the King himself. For him to defy that would mean punishment for him.
@HisSn0wWhiteQueen Yeah I think Benedict showed that very well because in the scene where the tell Marry what she has to do he looks like he doesn't want Marry to become the kings whore (I know that's not what she was called but I don't care) but he has no choice.
They shouldn't have deleted this seen cos in the film, it doesn't explain what happened to Mary's husband, for all we know he could have puffed into smoke!

I Think it was awful that the movie didn't explain what happened to William. In the book he died of the sweating sickness.
