He must be barely opening the horn valve. I have done thato make the horn much lower in volume at grade crossings where no one was around. No use disturbing the whole neighborhood.
@robertgift Sometimes all the bells don't work. And trust me, they disturb the neighborhood plenty. The locals love the trains here, it's their moneymaker.
Why does the locomotive horn sound so distant?
