Exodus20:4-5. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God
Isaiah 42:8 I [am] the LORD: that [is] my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.
It is not just "communion" in the weak sense that you are stating. You obviously have no understanding of Scriptures to be saying that. I am not going to do the work for you, but I will give you a clue so to explore it yourself: you cannot read the so called "last supper" accounts without understanding what all scriptural meal accounts are about. What Christ insituted was not sacrifice but something much more in keeping with what he proclaimed, revealed and was killed for.
Sacrifice, the public worship of the gods through the offering of tangible and material objects, has been the essence of all religions from the very beginning of time. This is especially the case of Christianity , the true religion, with its foundation in the Mosaic Law. God, since the very beginning of His covenant with man, has required His people to offer sacrifices in acknowledgment of His supreme dominion over them and in reparation for the offenses committed against the divine law.
Just because ancient peoples may have performed offerings and sacrifices to unknown gods does preclude Christianity. Properly understood the ancient is a lost world for it is before God's Intervention, as Christ Jesus, the Perfect Sacrifice. Everything in the ancient past points to the present; pointing to God Himself in anticipation of His arrival. The ancients knews that they were helpless and helpless without Him. Time has come to a still and now proceeds in Him.
This is the origin of the Catholic Mass, first offered by Our Lord at the Last Supper and fulfilled at Calvary.
It was not until 16 century, with the proliferation of the Protestant errors, that some of these groups began to reject the idea of a sacrificial Mass and to substitute in its stead a communion ceremony in which community gathered together to worship God with prayer and song.
The Extraordinary Form is the only true form. Great video.
