My problem with your comment on MKDS's online is that there's no battle mode at all. In addition to not being able to drag items, your characters couldn't push each other around (which helped make heavy karts useless, along with other things), which makes me feel like they couldn't get the netcode fast enough to include contact physics with items and karts.
And yeah, like you Super Circuit was my introduction to Super MK, and I owned but didn't like MK64, as Crash Team Racing felt better.
I never mentioned that MKDS had a Battle Mode online. I know it didn't. However, that you can hold items behind you in Mario Kart Wii brings in defensive driving to its online modes, which I find annoying.
I'm an item specialist; I'm pretty mediocre at the driving part of things, but I'm much better at slowing the other racers down by hitting them with stuff like Green Shells. Because you can drag Bananas and Shells behind you now, hitting them is much harder despite the elimination of snaking.
Lol. I'm sorry, but I'm too terrible with chance to depend on items. Although like you mentioned in an earlier video, much practice must be made with long distance green shell shots.
But...you've always been able to drag items behind you. What I meant by my comments is that Mario Kart DS was unable to keep that mechanic, which I assume to this day is why didn't include an online battle mode. Mario Kart Wii pretty much has the online to the way they wanted it to be.
I don't understand why they made Donkey Kong look like crap. Ever since MKDS he has awkward handling and awkward drifting, same in this game. I think Nintendo thinks that now Donkey Kong isn't popular, having made no good games after DK 64, they are just killing him off it seems.
But he's still one of my fav chars, even tho I can't work with him at all in this game
Hmm. I tend to play defensively, but only when I'm racing...not so much in Battle Mode. I only put up my defenses if I see a red shell flying towards me, and I have a banana or shell waiting to be used although DS Twilight House tends to be my very favorite battle area for the reason that I can play defensively without having to rely just on items to do it.
I think Coin Runners could use an extra item. Remember the double coins from the original Super Mario Kart? It seems appropriate.
I never played the Battle Mode on Super Mario Kart, so actually, I don't know how the Double Coins worked. I began Mario Kart with 64.
I guess the Blue Team, during the last moments, saw that they were ahead and decided to all hold stuff behind them to repel the Red Team's attacks. Oddly, I didn't get points for hitting people with the Mushroom or the Star.
I think the mushroom and star cause your opponents to lose points rather than you gaining them.
In Super Mario Kart, coins were everywhere for you to collect. You lost coins if you were hit by an item and lost just 1 coin if another racer ran into you. As long as you had at least one coin, you wouldn't spin out if you were ran into. The double coin item gave you coins which was very useful if all of the other coins that were on the track were gone.
The coins in Super Mario Kart didn't restore themselves. Also, unless all of the item squares were used, they wouldn't restore either.
I just figured the double coin item could serve a great purpose in Coin Runners. Nintendo brought a lot of things back from the original, so I think that item could've fit very well in Coin Runners.
I see. So it was a special item that added to your Coin total. The Coin system returned in Super Circuit completely intact, though it used the Nintendo 64 system of Item Boxes. I played Super Circuit, so I understood that. (I understood Super Mario Kart through Super Circuit, actually. I never had a Super Nintendo.)

If you hit an enemy while using a Mushroom, does it steal their balloon in this game?
willbrost 3 years ago
Yes, though sometimes it doesn't happen, and I don't know why.
Overhazard 3 years ago
@willbrost yeah sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. But it always works when you hit a CPU in 1 player.

Not in MKDS's online mode. I liked how that was removed so that I could hit people with stuff consistently. Then snaking ruined that.

No only does DK look like crap, he sounds like it too. His voice in this game is horrible, I greatly prefer his voice in SSBB.
