Never heard this song before in my life until I heard it recently on Radio Rewound which played all-(mostly) 60s music on Labor Day weekend. I added on to my favorites, and for some, it DOES bring back memories. A must to enjoy!
This song stands out by having the singer admit that they ruined the relationship. Ginny's voice does remind me of Leslie Gore! And you added great graphics that fit the song like a glove!.
Thanks for making this great video, and posting information about the song! I first heard the song in 1970, when we were playing all the old records in the family collection. We did not know it was a 'hit' record, just loved it for the girl calling herself a 'dumbhead' and saying she had a peanut for a brain!.
My album was just released on Poker Records, in England, but you can buy it on Amazon. It has my Japenese version of Dumb Head on it which is fun to hear again. What's your email -- we'll talk more.
Thanks for the compliments, Antematter. I had a super fun time singing and recording songs when Rock & Roll was just coming into vogue. How lucky was I to have contributed to this wonderful age of Music! Thanks, Ginny Arnell
@Antematter She truly equals the best of the genre, and brought her own special qualities to it. I am glad to report that Ginny is still alive and well, although retired from singing.
This is a lovely early girlie song.I don`t know why people are bad mouthing Amy Winehouse thoe she has nothing to do with this. However, regardless of Amy`s background she is the best female singer and songwriter to come out of Britain for decades, even if you can`t relate to her lyrics she has an amazing voice.Anyway thanks 4 a great songx
I like Ginny's music, and it is unfair that good singers such as she did not make much money from their recordings. However, I don't care for Amy Winehouse's songs. I think her voice is okay, and her lyrics poor. Of course many people today identify with her stuff, just as many people, for example, go for rap music with lyrics about life in the Hood. Amy probably could win another grammy though if she records a song titled Back to Rehab.
"Dumb Head" climbed as high as No. 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 in late 1963, but she had a song that I played earlier in 1963 as a DJ in Nashville, called "Trouble's Back In Town" (flip side "I'm Crying Too") on the MGM label, as was "Dumb Head." Ginny actually teamed with Gene Pitney as the duo Jamie & Jane, which recorded some fairly obscure songs on the Decca label circa 1959.
Fantastic! This version is so clear and crisp it sounds nothing like the version I have on CD! Love the kazoo reference too! Joannie Sommers has that delightful touch in her "Johnny Get Ang-ary" version! :-) There's another tune I may add one day that is surrounded by the mighty kazoo as well!
Thanks again and I think if I haven't cross-referenced the "Sharades" version I think someone has it here too now!
Sergio....I really believe you are a genius. This is not my favorite Ginny song by a long shot but your video made me look at it in a different light. I too, first heard it in the shower, fell, broke my leg!!! Not really...I can't imagine any of the girl-now singers singing this...Amy Winehouse maybe...lol....I love Ginny's version of "Trouble's Back In Town," which was a #1 country hit for The Wilburn Brothers. Ginny is a natural. She sounds so much younger than her photos make her look.
Amy Winehouse I think she could sing it, and even pull it off, but never like Ginny. I like "Trouble's Back In Town" and so many others, there will be more Ginny videos to come.:o)

What a great song! Never heard it before, but the tune is very catchy and so 60's!
It is an era that will NEVER be equaled, not the music, not the cars, not the adventure!

Jon,
This is taken from the new Poker CD and the sound is fabulous. Yes, such youthful and fun sound that the kazoo adds to the these teenage songs.

By the way, thanks for the compliment. I listened to the Sharades version, it's quirky and fun, but Ginny's is best.
