  • this is very informative. I work in a big hotel with huge exhibits of fish and there we have touch pools. one of them have the horseshoe crabs and has ever wondered about their gonads. now i saw it here. great!!!

  • Only one guy is a douche...

  • anyone know what they need to live? i want a pet one :D

  • @CONKER17 I just saw some at petland for 25 bucks they come really small.. Do you have a tank setup yet? they arent a good starter fish.

  • @xmazz31x I am willing to get a tank one day to own a pet like this, I just needed to know what they need in order to live, what type of water what food ect

  • ITS A GIANT TRIOPS! without the backflipping..and freshwater...and 30 days to like...and super fast growth...and eggs can hatch after drying out...and the whiskers...ya

  • Our existence as species is about 0.0004% of the total time in years these guys have lived on Earth.

How the hell did these guys outlive so many other species!?

  • Hey thanks for making this video .. it was really informative indeed !

  • I would love to go back 510 millions years ago as an observer and look at all the primitive lifeforms.....watching these horseshoe crabs is the closest one can actually do this. What an amazingly wonderful world...!

  • Very good video thanks for sharing! :)

  • Well...that was nice <3

  • Nature is amazing!!!! =D Very good video, thanks for posting ^^ I love it!

  • The embryo looks like a face hugger.

  • very cool! whoa! they swim when they are like little balls! :)

Yeah, their blood glows. 'is why it's so sad so many in the wild are used for specifically that purpose in the medical community, basically taking their blood, all the while, harming/killing them without any anesthesia or any concern for their comfort. :(

Every time I see one, it's crazy to think that they've been around since the dinosaurs and maybe earlier.

  • Great video!

  • Tremendous video! Very educational and excellent photography. I never knew the "trilobite larva" are flourescent! I have observed them closely this year. Thank you for creating such an informative video. 5 stars!

  • I saw one video somewhere on TV they are very useful for medical purpose...idk if they are harmed that way but man....sea creatures hold many mysteries for many people who are sick and dying....

  • are big adult crabs flourescent under ultraviolet light???

  • @silverkenon not as brightly as do the younger ones

  • Very cool.

  • Awesome... that's a lot of eggs!

  • i would love to own a horseshoe crab

every now and then perhaps once a week i would put a leash on him and walk him around. I would love to see peoples faces XD

  • really informative :]

By the way though, whats the name of the song?

  • @bub156 The song is Homeward bound, Awake to light. thanks for looking

  • the underside reminds me of the fabrication machine from 9.

    they're so awesome :)

  • I was lucky enough to see the mating a couple of years ago on a beach in New Jersey. There was only a few, but I have seen videos in which there were swarms.

  • Strange. Our professor told us that horseshoecrabs die after they laid their eggs.

  • Sometimes even a "professor" needs to review their materials. Too much misinformation out there about these animals as it is.

  • horseshoe crabs can live up to twenty years living that long just to mate once would be pointless and a waste of energy. and yes there is much misinformation about them one being whether the species is endangered or not, some groups claim that the atlantic species is endangered while some dont. Populations fluxuate in different areas and some confuse the atlantic with the 4 other species living in asia such as the japanese horseshoe crab which is very vunerable.

  • Our horseshoe crab, Limulus polyphemus, is in a drastic decline, approx. 75 % are gone and here in Florida that is evident in the few that come to the beaches now. The 3 other species Tachypleus tridentatus, Tachypleus gigas and Carcinoscorplus rotundicauda are also in decline. In Singapore they are using this video along with others to help educate people about their population in an effort called, Adopt-A- Horseshoe Crab, hopefully these efforts can help protect this most vulnerable species.

  • when ever i see horseshoe crabs they look like mini wheel scooters

  • Loved this but their scary once their older

  • Nice video, very informative, thanks!!!

This animals are really creepy but awesome <3

i was amazed when i saw one for first time :O

  • This is my favorite video!

  • Very informative video. Good job! :D

  • Such beautiful creatures ! Made me want to have a pet one.

  • Strange the more I look at them the cuter they appear. Do the adults have any natural predators

  • i thought they latched onto peoples faces

  • No they don't. Though they may look intimidating, they're actually pretty harmless.

I guess the facehuggers in the Alien movies are inspired by Horseshoe Crabs.

  • they are headcrabs just not fully evolved

  • heh....

  • they're amazing

  • thanks, is a good video...

  • well constructed

  • they look like the bulldozers of the ocean

  • Kabuto from Pokemon ^_^

  • win

  • i want one now

  • an egg of a horse shoe crab or fully grown horse shoe crab

  • either one, they'll eventually be a fully grown if properly cared for so they're both fine

  • they should really call crab eggs

    "crabiar"(crab e ar)

  • strangely illuminating

  • Nice video. Horseshoe crabs remind me of Kabuto of Pokemon xD

  • Was that a... uhm... horseshoe crab orgy at the end?

  • Great vid ! What is the 'trilobite' larva referance ? They arn't trilobites so how does this apply ? Thanks.

  • No they are not trilobites but like trilobites the larval horseshoe crabs do not have a tail. The tail developes in approx, two weeks give or take a few days on the ones I've raised. So often at this stage they are refered to as trilobite larve. Thanks for watching.

  • I have a phobia of these. THEY'RE SO CREEPY.

I shiver whenever I see them

  • Amazing Job, Victor!

Too sad I am teaching botany (nor really;), but I post it for students and marine bio colleague.

Though now in the ArLaTex area, both of us came from FL. Just in case you really work for Gulf Specimen Marine in Panacea ...

    Keep Up The Good Work!

    Matt

  • they look like evil walking hats

  • Greay job better than my science teacher

    =)

  • Great video. Thank you!!

  • can those things sting you? i seen alot in florida last spring break break in cape san blas but kept the hell away there too weird

  • The pointy tails are to help them flip upright if they're upside down. They don't sting or bite you.

  • ***** Five stars! *****

  • Awesome! I love these things. Great video!

  • I love it. That is amazing work. Wish I lived down there =)

  • I love it...

  • amazing!

  • Excellent Work !!!!!

  • Thank you tubette1, Horseshoe crabs are one of my favorite animals I work with so this was a fun project.

  • Beautiful!! They are so delicate when first born. The two top eyes are obscured by the barnicles on the adult ones. It's cool to be able to see the two top eyes on the young ones. Neautiful soundtrack. Who/ what is that piano piece?

  • Hey makezmusic, the music is Homeward bound, Awake to light. Thank you for commenting.
