hey budy love the hoffy i reckon they have better tone than the rickenbackers just wondering what sort of strings you got on it they say that mccartney uses flats i seem to think thats not true have a look under paul mccartney bass lesson on here and you will find the video that shows him teaching how to play the bass to his new song ever present past now when you hear the bass sounds deffently like round wounds i have played with both strings i prefer round wounds they bring out the tone more

hi,i'm nearly sure he uses flatwound strings (according to the sound;i'm quite sure it's flatwound)!!

actually mccartney's rickenbacker has a much fatter tone than his hoffner and flat wound strings take away some of the highs but give you a much warmer sound. Most of the Beatles stuff is flat wound strings - later on though they started using round and you can definitely hear the difference, not as fat a tone and not as warm.
