I love how the music changes from this genuinely epic space-opera score to 70's sci-fi music like you would hear in UFO. It is wonderful that these changes work with each other
I had heard that in it's true form StarBlazers was much better than the NA translation and I was a believer right up until Starsha said "we have the cosmo cleaner-D" not to be confused with the cosmo cleaner-C which was defective crap .
jk'ing, anyway I think I like the overdub more but it's still flawed.
btw if you like Star Wars, look at my favorites (George Lucas talks about the influence of samurai movies on Star Wars, Darth Vader vs Japanese Police).
This is the only epidode I missed out of 26(first series of Yamato=Star Blazer) stories. Back in 1974, this TV animation instantly caught up my imagination. I really appreciate the person who uploaded this precious footage.
Damn, one episode and I'm hooked. Why can't they remaster this and re-release it, I would happily pay money for it just as I did Robotech because this show is awesome.
Its japan thing in old anime, also they said Yamato had sunken for 200 yrs yet its 2199 while the REAL YAMATO had sunk in 40's so its totally unreal too eh ?
But with epic story + epic char + epic moral lesson + epic pict (for its era) + epic music = Yamato is one of the legendary anime of Japan even to this day... many anime like Narutard, Bleacher, or OPiecer even looks crap compared with Yamato who bring many human emotion + life lesson
2:33 you can hear that loud rattling (not the beeping) sound that the mechanical components in really old computers make, the origenal star trek did the same cause people didn't know what computers is the future would sound like
Thanks for uploading a subtitled version of "Starblazers"--I remember watching this show in the late '70's and even the English version was a cut-above the standard animated fare in that it was a continuing story rather than just "episodes". The animation looks archaic by today's standards, but still has some powerful imagery. I wasn't even aware that closeing theme had lyrics and plays like a moving, stand-alone song in it's own right.
So they omitted the "Her Red Scarf" lyrics? That's such a crime!!! The song gave us kids the sweetest dream of space odyssey... better than "Fly Me to the Moon"!
As I recall, they had to go to Iscandar to pick up the "Cosmo-DNA" equipment itself in "Starblazers" (and assembled it in-transit); possibly because earth technology wasn't quite advanced enough to built it even from blueprints, though they did have the know-how to make the space-warp engine and wave-motion gun they needed.
Critical components of the purifier were probably made of iscandarium, a substance that was not available in the solar system and therefore would have had to be fetched from Iscandar. Watch "Yamato - The New Voyage" for reference.
Suuure, and if you see someone drowning in a swimming pool, you stand at the edge of the pool with life preserver in hand and shout "Here's the life preserver! Come and get it!" Right?
Whoever programed the robot is a genius. An A.I. that's capable of human emotions and making human mistakes is a dream for all robot scientists out there.
just found i and i just realized that this is a masterpiece

Starsha didnt send blueprints because she want to see earthpeople's courage. moral. loyalty.
