  • How could you not like this music? My parents don't like Irish Traditional Music, and I know a lot of other people don't, but I don't know how you can't. It's awesome, because it allows you to escape from the modern world. Every time I hear it, I picture life in the countryside without cars, computers, or cell phones.

  • Im Goin to see them Next Week Live in Siegen (Germany) =)!

  • These guys are epic!! I especially like their albums The Red Crow and Blackwater.

  • I like it but... too much... repetition... same note...burned into head...

  • Andy de Jarlis, Ingonish (starts at 1:28) and Mrs McGhee (starts at 2:27)

  • Can't wait to see you in the Interceltic festival of sendim, northern Portugal ( Festival Intercéltico de sendim ).

  • Runaway SundayAltan | Format: Audio Cassette available at Amazon

  • Look under "Dance of the Celts"L-Altan mix

  • Better than frickin Flamenco

  • I like them, but they would be better if they played faster.

  • @Tadhg64 Yeah but too fast to dance to! Speed is getting away from the tradition. Seems speed is for a particular market audience. But each to his own.

  • the best traditional music in the world!

  • I love the way the Irish play the violin

  • @Tijmbaland we call it a fiddle =]

  • quilbo i tink i no the song you on about..is it played by a load of fiddles??look it up on limewire..:)..i found it there..:)

  • fantastic fiddle playing!

  • I have a low price CD, it is awsome.

  • Fabulous performance by this great band. The tunes are The Shepherd's Daughter, Miss Ramsey's, Spirits of Wine.

  • Terrific truly!

  • I cant believe it!! its love at first heard!! they are stunning!!

  • You make me crazy with this song is just like those songs of my country Romania in the region of Maramures !...sweet and wonderfull ...Thanks !

  • I love this band, but, i can't find a song i used to listen to years ago

It's "dance of the celts", by Altan

    I want iiiiittt

  • Sorry but there isn't any song with this name by Altan. It doesn't exist

  • Omg, then i should post that mp3 i had, because it was a very nice song, and i downloaded it years ago as "Altan - Dance of the Celts"

  • @Donegal Hi There - the first tune in this set, I love it! and I've heard it loads over the years but I have no idea what it's called ..... I have tried to find out the names of the individual reels in the set 'John Doherty's Reels' but can't find them - dont suppose you know the name of it do you? ... :)

  • @TheSingingBarmaid may not have a name, John Doherty was a travelling fiddler from Donaegal, its possible he never named any of these tunes at all and someone who learned it off him taught them to Altan's fiddlers

  • @TheSingingBarmaid Found it!! It's the Shepherd's Daughter

  • @BothyJon Fanastic! WOW! All that time after my original post as well! Thank you so much! :D

  • @TheSingingBarmaid Well, I certainly know how you felt - took me five days of searching to figure it out :)

  • @Quilbo Actually, there is an album "Dance of the celts", where are many Irish bands. And there is one song from Altan - ANDY DE JARLIS.. maybe that´s what you´re looking for :-)

  • @Quilbo: Try... "Altan - Dance of the Celts Mix" search on YouTube? Cheers from the States!

  • @ReggiesReply that's my upload man :D

  • @Quilbo 'dance of the celts' is not a song but an album in which there are some songs of altan.you can check it on cduniverse..

  • @Quilbo /watch?v=L4LC04Ll3vY

  • Altan is damn near flawless. I love their music.

  • @Heptarch7 altan is flawless. thee is no mistake about it!

  • wonderful!

  • Wow! Superb! They are the best fiddlers out there.

  • Ar Canain 's ar Ceol

  • I saw them several years ago by pure luck because I had never heard of them before....v3very amazing group and you want to stand up and cheer to their music...

  • this is Brilliant.

  • Which recording is this? is it commercial? I would pay for it!

  • I don't know, but they place this song on their album "Best Of 1987-1993" in a medley:

    Fermanagh Highland

    Donegal Highland

    John Doherty's

    King George IV

  • The recording is not good. The image is awful and the sound is not well balanced... But the performance is terrific.

  • Wheres Daithi Sproule?

  • Altan has two guitarists: Daithi Sproule and Mark Kelly. Mr. Sproule, I believe, lives in Minnesota, and plays when the band travels in North America. Mr. Kelly when they play Europe, except when they play the Hollywood Bowl, in which case both play, simultaneously.

  • Erin go Brah!

  • Altan is amazing and Mairéad is simply an incarnation of a Goddess

  • Waw, they are amazing, I really like their music.

    Thank you DONEGAL

  • very nice irish music

  • Nice!

  • amazing.

  • you obviously have no idea or knowlegde about irish trad so why bother saying anything. altan r amazing

  • "ur video is suck"

That's not even a proper sentence when I put my brain on retard-mode. Let me do it right for you; Your video sucks.

  • ¬¬

  • I JUST ADORE ALTAN, THEY ROCK!.

  • They're a great live band - saw them once and they were very energetic and entertaining, besides being of high quality and having a great sound (the video doesn't really do it justice). I wish they hadn't done that ridiculous ending to this song though!...

  • Cá bhfuil 'Johnny'le phocaí folamh anois, . cen rud a' tú deanta le johnny inniu? gan rud...aaah

  • Alright, can't speak gealic, any chance of a trnaslation?

  • Awesome!

  • Ireland GO !!

  • This song always gives me great emotions

  • It's hardly "a song", but a set of dance tunes (reels, to be accurate)

  • Brilliant!

  • I've been a great fan of Altan for years- they're divine!

  • Long live Altan!!

  • Me gustan mucho, la vedad es que saben tocar muy bien :).

  • They are so good live because of their attention to detail - I've seen one of the technical requirement sheets for a show in Perth WA - its about 6 pages long, defining every aspect of their sound - the best Irish 'trad' band ever -

  • Heh, great.

  • thes remind me of the Bothy Band, great!

  • Great videos!

Where did these videos come from? As far as I know Altan never put a live dvd on sale, am I right?

    Thanks.

  • Ta gra agam do Altan!!

  • Hurray for Dun Ngall!

  • Mighty Band from a mighty County, DONEGAL!

  • Like the Donegal style a lot more than the Sligo or Clare that have become standards... A really great band.

  • Máiréad's lovely vocals, the witty banter (in English or in Irish) between songs, and of course, the music itself - all part of the Altán experience.

I think I've seen them live 4 times and have thoroughly enjoyed every performance. They are absolutely brilliant live, and as good as they sound on recordings, their music has to be heard live to be fully appreciated.

  • John Doherty: the stuff of legend, here played by Altan. Amazing. For anyone interested, this number -- or something very similar -- occurs on track 2 of Runaway Sunday. And I can't help noticing from this video how awesome they sound "live," something I've also noticed from numerously attending their concerts. They are not to be missed.

Altan plays with a certain Godlike magnificence. I love them.

  • one of the finest groups i have ever been privileged to see live

  • Altan is damn perfect !! Real Celtic Power !! Phalaina
