Watch Gavin Harrison's performances and any excerpt of his dvd's "Rhythmic Horizons" & "Rhythmic Illusions", absolutely ridiculous stuff on overriding, illusory time signatures, polyrhythmic soloing, etc. Practice throwing around/displacing the accents on what you play, as well as messing with the resolve point of what you play. Truth is, there's no easy way to approach AAL-style compositions/polyrhythmic playing; it takes shitloads of practice.
