Hi. My name's Matthew Woodard, born and raised in Midland, Texas. Go Robert E. Lee class of 2008! I'm currently living and going to school in Germany. I know a lot of you aren't as far away from Midland as I am, being as Central Europe is probably as far away as you can get, but I still appreciate my hometown of Midland so much and how much of a positive influence it has been on my life. Every time I listen to this song, I can still see that gorgeous Texas horizon through that Midland skyline.
Great job- and a song I definitely relate too. I lived in Midland (Mudville) from 58 - 74 and went to Lee also. Grew up at the end of Mockingbird Lane. That's ok about the Purple and Gold thing... We still visit as there is family there. Love to all!
Midland wasn't my real hometown. I was a temporary transplant for a few years, but had to tell you that your song made me smile with the memories it brought back. Wonderful music, awesome song!
Great performance and song! I like the "2 weeks from water & 5 feet from hell" and "prospecting stories and broken hearts" -- they tell real stories. We live about 90 miles northeast, but we've been there many times (family). Only we who live out here can really understand.
We were blown away by the response we got. Would you care to join our email list? Visit smytheandtaylor dot com and click on the 'join the mail list' button. Hello all you Midlanders! We are very excited about our shows in Midland this weekend. Of course we have the 'Big Shew' at the Museum of the Southwest on Sunday, but also, we'll be playing at the Midland Hilton this Thursday the 5th!
Left the for the finer things in life and realized there weren't any! Funny thing is, I haven't been back since...some places are better left a (good) memory.
Hey girl, you hit the nail on the head. I loved your song and think you are very talanted. I'd go see you and your band in concert. Nice harmony too. By the way, I LIVE IN MIDLAND, TEXAS and proud to be here. By the way, in your song you forgot to mention the grass burrrrs and RATTLE SNAKES LOL
SO true -- ONLY a native CAN love it! I do -- althought I left there many years ago and go back to see family. It still has a special meaning to me! The maroon and white will ALWAYS be the BEST!!!!
I have no idea if they have heard it. Even if they had, I doubt they would be able to acknowledge it, since that would be seen as 'promoting' a certain song or artist. Even though the President was born in New Haven, Connecticut, I'm sure he would remember the ol' purple and gold the same way many of us do..
wow. an ode to midland, texas. and a heartfelt one at that. but, i'm sorry to say that i do not share everyone's love of this place, even though this is where i was born and raised. i left for the big city and have never once looked back. the only reason i go back is to visit family who think that Midland is the greatest thing to happen to America since sliced bread. i was born there, but i refuse to die there. regardless of my feelings of midland, texas, though, nice song.
Thanks again Midland, for a great show at the museum! And thanks to whoever sent the cloud overhead at 7:30p!
