My daughter is a freshman at Edmond Santa Fe this year. I saw most of the shows at OBA, and felt by far that Owasso was the best there. I have absolutely no clue how they judge these things, but I thought Owasso's show was much harder, much more enjoyable and fun to watch.

I wish Owasso had placed higher at BOA.

I think it was harder too. I don't know what the judges saw in Broken Arrow's show. They have a fantastic colorguard but that doesn't make up for everything else. Owasso almost always plays better than them.

Broken Arrow gets extra credit because they're Broken Arrow. That's why they keep edging out Union and Owasso.

@mhughet I'd keep that little comment to yourself, your offending alot of kids. There is many reasons why Owasso could have been placed lower then Broken Arrow. Both shows were performed well. Keep in mind making 7th place in Grand National FINALS is something to be proud of. By saying you wish they placed higher you make it seem like its the kids fault. Bands pay the money to just GO to Grand Nationals and watch the greats like Avon, Carmel, BA, The Woodlands, Lawrence Central, Marian Catholic.

lol @ greats. Marching band is really completely overrated and the people who tout it's greatness are just completely blinded by the sub-culture it represents. I really would much rather go to an orchestra concert by a major city's orchestra than BOA GN Finals. The final product is still nothing more than high school musicians playing band music which for the most part lacks any sensitivity in the music or character in my opinion. The marching is just not that entertaining either.

I like marching band but the only shows that even are somewhat entertaining are those of the GN Finals bands plus a few more. Most bands are awfully boring and play boring music which is why the crowds at football games pay little attention to them. There's a reason there aren't any professional marching bands (No, DCI is not professional. The musicians have to pay to even be in the band.) It's because the band music is not that great. Good orchestras trump a good band every time.

@mhughet Actually in my opinion Owasso's was just an entertainment show, Broken Arrows show was an artistic show, they went for the emotional approach not a lot of marching bands do that and it was quite a risk, not to mention the general effect costs more than visual and musical, so in my opinion Broken Arrow fair and square and Broken Arrow has gotten 2nd place at OBA before, in 2001 Tulsa Union won OBA

winning isnt everything. everyone one is a winner at heart. the only way u can lose is by not putting everything you have into what you do best. i honestly think us three bands from Oklahoma (Union, BA, and Owasso) making finals are amazing! WHAT COULD BE BETTER THEN THAT! i love being part of PRIDE OF OWASSO! i WOULD NOT EVER change that! :) - "One mind, One mission, One heart"

@mhughet the other bands such as Avon and Mary Ann Catholic could watch our show on youtube, study what we do well and what we dont do well, which would tell them what they need to do to beat us. They could improve on those areas that they see that we are good at and do even better at those things and eliminate our chances of winning those captions. So please just wait to post it until next week.

That doesn't even make sense. This isn't football. You can't watch the opponent's past games to find out how to compete against them better. Each band has its own show and music. What can this video do to give the other bands a competitive advantage?

omfg. It is not like football even in the slightest. I don't see another band competing out there with you on the field. And there are hundreds of performances to look at for a band to gauge how well they are doing with other bands but it won't improve another band's performance in the short term to help them beat a better band at the next competition. I haven't heard one valid logical reason yet to delete this.

Mr. Gorham even messaged me on facebook (I'm his friend) and said, "Those who asked you to take down the video are current band students who want to do whatever is necessary to do well this weekend. You'll notice that our competitors don't have videos up either." So not only did he himself not ask me to take it down, he didn't give me any reason that I should either.

I am glad to say I was a part of Broken Arrow's band. It was more than just winning. We had some fabulous musicians in the program. I was never a musical prodigy and unfortunately I never had the size for football. I am a huge football fan and it allowed me to go to all the games and get to compete at something. If winning doesn't matter why keep score?

I have to admit that Owasso's and Union's show was more fun and exciting than BA's this year. But BA was by far more clean and more polished. You also have to remember that BA doesn't even have their whole show on the field yet. They won't have it ready until they get on the busses for BOA. I loved how OBA ended. The most exciting, nail biting, edge of your seat finale I have ever seen.

@shinymopar The ages old saying "BA is either playing or moving" really does ring true though. They have much less physically and mentally demanding show, and they are a terrific program with good leadership and they are very well organized. When you put both of those together, you get a program that can win every single time, albeit they've definitely sold out. When Darren Davies took over, it became so much about winning that other parts of marching had to be cut.

I love this show, I love performing it, and that's really all that matters. If you love this show, perform it with all of your heart, and make the judges know you love it. That's winning to me is when they love watching your show over and over again. :) One mind, one mission, one heart. <3

My best friend and I were so mad that we didn't win! Broken Arrow did a good job, but they're show really confuses me this year. Everybody around us was mad that Owasso didn't win, too, and we were sitting by Union people.

I will agree, I like Owasso's show better than BA's, but that doesn't always win.

We still have a few weeks left to see these bands work it out for GNs, and we all know Owasso, Union and BA will clean every single day. I have faith in all the bands.

The thing about these captions is that it's a 20/20/60 split with music/visual/GE. That's why they used GE to break the tie with Union. On the other hand, you know who you beat this time? Owasso is getting better constantly, and I'd like to see this trend continue. Spend less time worrying about scores, and more time worrying about being better than you were every time you practice. Keep doing that, and awards come to you. Always finish.

The caption scores should be changed to 30/30/40 then. Giving 3 judges that much power over 60 % of the score does not make sense. That means the GE judges control 20% of the score each while the other judges control just 10%. All judges should have about equal say in the overall score. If anything the technical aspect of a performance should be the part that's judged more, not the subjective effect of it.

well i calculated the scores now had it been 30/30/40 and B.A. still would have won by half a point. I still think it should be balanced that way though or at least 25/25/50.

@mhughet BTW Scores are based like this Visual and Musical both take 20% of the total score or 40% together while GE is worth 60%. Broken Arrow had a heart tugging show that involved tons of emotion. They beat Owasso by over 5 Points in the GE caption and pulled away with a one point lead.

Your show was my favorite! Shoulda beat OBA js There's no way they had more General Effect... You got a standing ovation from the entire stadium and broken arrow got applause but should have been 2 or 3rd this year.

They should have in my opinion. They won the visual and music captions and Broken Arrow won the General Effect caption. Broken Arrow ended up winning by one point.
