  • You basically tought me my voice lessons through youtube! Thankyou soooo much, your amazing <3

  • Ok for about an entire month I didn't even need to do excercises to sing I could just breathe deeply autimaticaly, and sang really nice, now for the last week my breathing is shallow I don't know what happened, what does that mean?

  • how do you hit high chest voice notes?

  • How do you hit the high chest voice notes?

  • Did we just see a long ad?

  • WAIT, NO! DONT LEAVE!! I NEED TO KNOW WHERE TO GET THE BOOK! AHHHHHHH!!!!!....or maybe i missed you saying that.....i shall check again!!!!

  • my throat hurts when i sing- do you know whats wrong with me it has been like this for the last 5-6months?:/

  • hi do i have any vocal damage in my voice i cant tell have a video on my page i did james blunt cover by natalie holroyd can you listen and tell me if i have any damage

  • Would this help asthmatics?

  • This is all true. You need to take care of your instruments, and for a speaker/singer this is especially important. You can't take your voice to a shop and get it fixed. As far as drinking before a show, most people have dreams of stardom, but it's really not what you think it is. It's very hard work. Long hours, and the pay is hardly what you expect. It's never a party central, and any serious aspiring musician should know that it truly is a business and a job just like anything else. Good luck

  • im a singer, and i joined a lot of singing contest... and i stop 6 yrs ago, now i can't reach the high notes. :( *i need more practice*

  • I keep restraining my throat way too much, and it tires up my whole jaw. How come? I'm doing a proper diaphram breath? Please help! :)

  • I have to agree about the beer part. It really helps to loosen up, also when it's about stage fright.

  • Dude that shit you just said was the missing link to my quest of being the most famous mother fuckin musician in Arizona. It's shitty that it cost money to get the full package. Gota make that money son, I ain't hating. I got some what of a hearing problem. Not too severe though. Would hearing aids or any other remedy most definitely help my singing????? Or should I just keep it real?

  • Here's a questing, I do boxing, is it still right to breathe with my belly?

If relaxed at the wrong time I'm going down. But my breathing is very bad atm.

  • hi John

im 27 and have been singing since i was 13. i really ound your videos helpfull but have problems with understandig the breathingtechnic... cant you explain why and what it do to the voice?

i also wanted to know if it possible for everyone to hit a high note? i can hear and feel in my throath when my voice breaks so i know where my leak is that good isnt it?

    kool videos.

    thanks

    Andy

  • now i dont want to be a pain but i was told from the chest when breathing,

is it not on personal opinions or the way people sing personaly its so confusing.

  • you kinda look like Robert Duvall..

  • Hi. I get this comment a lot.

  • @VocalTrainingWarrior good actor.

  • @VocalTrainingWarrior maybe a silly question, maybe not but ive done vocal warm ups for a while now they do help alot and thank you for this video as im in that same situation as the "rock singer" minus i dont drink before stage. Few questions : How long should i be warming up for? then how long should i sing for properly, and how long should i warm down for. feed back would be greatly appreciated thank you :) Ade.

  • you just improved my life with just few videos. thank you so much!

  • You are very welcome. Keep working!

  • i've never breathed with my shoulders... maybe luck? hahaha

  • hello, i have a question...what are good ways to warm up my voice, if you read under my comment idk if you get it, but i posted a rpely to this guy under me, pater12, tellign hi mwhat i know how to do, that helps...i want to know a better way, tell me how? cuz your so far the best vocal teacher i think i've ever heard... lol :]

  • I can't sing low notes because my voice disappears haha..i have a very high pitched singing voice an like i can't go from high to low because when I try theres no voice on halfway there ... idk if i make sense but yeah.

  • that is the exact opposite from me lol :] i cant go high, i accully looked up a good way to warm my voice up, so i can..i know 2 ways...nd they're both hard for me...cuz yo udo that thing where yo ublow with you lips closed, and loose, and they kinda sound like a motor to a boat (not literally, just thats all i can think of) you make ur voice rly high pitched, and do that.....try this xept you go deep....its hard, but it will help, just try this at random times...it ahs helped me :]

  • @xernoff did u get ur voice to be high pitched? cuz mine cant go high it disappears just like urs!!

  • @pater12 haha im the same xcept i cant make high pitched voices, it compltely disappears. kinda sucks.. :(

  • these videos are amazing! thank you! this really helped a lot i was wondering why i wasnt able to get my pitch up and now i know! thanks!

  • Very good video, intresting, but i can't agree with you about what you say about overweight people and singing or performing. If you take a look at Aretha Franklin for example, you'll have to admit that your statement can't be seen generally.

but anyway thanks and great excercises, they're helping a lot!

  • My point is that any performer should want to do everything they can to be healthy just like an athlete. You can't perform to your best when your body is not in shape. I am older and it gets harder to keep the weight off but I walk twice a day and watch the calories.

  • I have a question. Do you have any vocal exercises that help open the throat up more wen reaching certain notes with vowels in them?

  • thanks dude

  • keep making your videos!

  • I have been getting this really thick crap in Throat thats just causing me so many issues when i try to sing.

  • it worked!!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!

  • You are very welcome

  • Just found this youtube video. What a phenomenal guy. I just watched 4 of them and I'm going to check out his site. I'm not a singer, but I'm trying to break some bad speaking habits. My problem is that I tighten up my diaphram and upper stomach muscles when breathing OUT! I don't know why I do this, but I'm thinking that learning how to breath like a singer may help.

  • Glad to hear that you have found some valuable info.

  • i notice that my voice gets weak after i sing a couple songs. making me unable to hit the more powerful notes

    am i doing something wrong???

  • Yes you are. You are probably not breathing correctly.

    Do you warm up?

Listen I sing too, I try. But that is not normal. They say breathing is never supposed to be exhausting, if you sing correclty, it should not only sound easy, but it should feel easy, like an air instrument, you know? You're supposed to enjoy it, hit every note right is very important, the position of each note on your throat should feel different.

    Most important thing: Relax.

A singers cryptonite is a tight throat.

  • I don't really know much but here is a tip,

Does your throat get sore when singing for awhile?

If it does you are not singing from deep down, I am not sure how to fix that beside focusing on creating your power from as low in your lungs as possible. Hope that gets you started.

  • thank you , i will use this technique when i go on britains got talnet 2010, im 11 by the way!

  • Let me know how it goes.

  • I drink alot of pop can that damageing my chances of strenthing my voice

  • No but Soda Pop has a lot of sodium and sugar in non- diet. Drink natures best, water!

  • sir.....

    i have problem

    i cant sing high songs...huhuhu

like dont stop bieliving and the search is over

i dont know to correct breath

  • I'm loving your message. I'm a 18 year old senior, and I'm a bass 2 who is teaching a freshman tenor, and I came along your videos for some tips about breathing I could tell him, and now I'm hooked on all your stuff. Its great. I'm still very proud on how you are connecting a healthy lifestyle with a healthy singing career. Brilliant stuff.

  • Thanks so much! "Pay it Forward" as you teach the freshman. Bless you.

  • Swimming is great physical exercise. Yes, smoking is not good for singing because it irritates the vocal chords. This makes them swell up and hence a hoarse voice. Best to make healthy choices when you are young.

    Jonathan

  • I got told swimming is good for ur singing?

And iv alsos been told if your throat vibrates while ur singing, it means your singing incorrectly?

& does drinking water everyday help?

Iv been sining since i was about 6, and i used to be very good, but as i got older i started to smoke and yes it has changed my voice!!! So people if you wana sing DONT SMOKE! Im slow giving up :)

  • It takes a lot of coordination. I have many students who study both instruments and we integrate them.

    Jonathan

  • You are so welcome! Check out my new video later today.

    Jonathan

  • Excellent point about the beer! How would you go about practicing to sing and play guitar or piano at the same time?

  • the beer drinking kid probably drank to de-inhibit himself for more emotion in his singing. Not to physically sing better, I mean come on.

  • I agree with you. But, most athletes use more healthy methods to "calm their fears." Vocal athletes need to do the same. Just makes sense.

    Jonathan

  • Nice tips thx ^-^

do you got any stuff on how to get your singing voice under controll :D?

    Cheers

  • You are very welcome!

    Jonathan

  • Wow this is very useful, this information is very very useful for me in my singing and conret playing....

    thank you soo much

  • You are so welcome!

    Jonathan

  • from what ive heard smoking lowers your lung capacity

  • ask joni mitchell ;)

  • You are a FANTASTIC instructor! Enjoyable to watch and listen to! I'll recommend you whenever such opportunities present themselves.

  • My first video listed will probably be better regarding the info you want.

    Jonathan

  • I'm not trying to be rude or whatever but um I think he said this was lesson two at the begining. If you put two and two together, you might figure that means he discussed it in the first video. Really sorry, but i'm just saying. Sorry.

  • you're a fool.

  • Thank You for making these videos i sing a lot but have never had any lessons. I'm not horrible but I've always wanted to take lessons to perfect my singing. Thank You Very Much!

    :D

  • finally i know how to breathe correctly..thanks sir jonathan..i've always want to sing when i was about five.. but i dont have the confidence and no time for voice lessons..but now..there's a video to watch..i can do it well..thanks! :)

  • i finaly got in the habit of breathing right.

i dont feel so.....traped, if that makes sense.

  • Great to hear! Bless you in fulfilling all your dreams and visions for your future.

  • Just keep in mind that anything that ultimately affects your physical performance should be watched closely!

  • i will listen to everything you say EXCEPT I won't give up a couple of beers..

  • he hardly gave any information rather than not drinking and doing exercise (physical and having a healthier life style)

  • holy crap it's robert duvall

  • I have sure heard that before!

    Jonathan

  • and it's a great compliment...that man is A: handsome B: a BRILLIANT actor!

  • haha i see it too haha thats so awesome!

  • ...

  • He is totaly right. Bravo..

  • isn't it much better if you wear something brighter or choose a room with more light for us to see your actions easier!

  • Thank You!

  • is it possible to train a female alto singer , to sing saprano?

  • Wonderful Advice. Explained and taught it in a simple way, understood it so well. I had a teacher that used these big words and dramatic, couldn't understand what she was trying to get at. Your an awesome teacher.

    thanks. :)

  • The man it's right; deep secrets of martial arts also talks about breathing correctly to eliminate fears and instabilities..

  • hmm.. hi you know what i can say why its big diff.speaking and singing most people they can speak very well like a vj or dj but they dont know how to sing.how could it be?????and then if you know how to sing maybe you are "gifted" or you "born to be really" as a singer thats all.

  • Thank you! You've helped me soo much already! Please make more lessons!!

  • i love you ! i like your teaching :)

  • wait, he was 20 and drinking beers before preforming ... uh oh isn't the drinking age 21 haha

  • good point about the beer. i believe i may be a changed man... performance is an art. You can't perform an art, while drinking!

But isn't red wine good for the singing?

  • Hey man, u explain really great.

but take jim morrison for example, he drunk way over couple of beers and his "vocal athletes abilities" were very high...

  • But there are some over weight people that can really sing.

  • Good Tutorials

  • I love the beginning of your videos... just playing the piano like la la laaa you're not being recorded then like... "oh hey!" noticing the camera.

  • lol..that's funny.
