  • looks like a great machine you got there !! congratz!!

  • Well done to making it to 400 vids mate, keep it going. Love the scrap yard visits, and motor infomation.

  • Hey whats up man, congrats on your new toy!!!

Looks like a he!! of a piece of machinary ...

Looking forward to your first project. FRITZ

  • hey man!, thanks!

its a beast of a machine. just got the turret apart today and its actually in good nick!. I'll have lots of videos to do on it as I gradually get it fixed up and running smoothly.

  • That's not dangerous at all, lol.

  • And you say that out of experience?

moving nearly 4000lbs of top-heavy iron is always dangerous.

  • @Aussie50 Hahah, whoops forgot to add sarcasm intended. my bad. ^^

  • ah sory man, its hard to tell on the net ;)

  • Try finding a 5hp single-phase motor for the thing.

  • 5hp is pretty big for single phase over here, but I will see what comes up.

  • Excellent project. I see the beer fridge is suitably placed at 8:33 too.

  • lol yeah gotta have the fridge :D

  • dude that machine sounded soooo bad ass when u switch it to 1 on 1 gearing

that is the best lathe ive seen

  • YAy 400'TH Video

  • indeed it is :D

  • Good stuff Aussie 50, did you move that lathe all by yourself?

    Well done.

  • Well I did 90% of it, my dad is down from Qld at the moment so he lent a hand and kept an eye on it as I was moving it.

I don't like to move heavy stuff alone, if somthing goes wrong and I get pinned down I'd like to have sombody there to help me.

  • make it petrol powered with the 1967 briggs you got lol. She wont dog down as much on 1 to 1 lol.

  • lol nah, I need smooth power for metal turning, a small IC engine would send vibrations through the geartrain and ultimately to the workpiece.

it would like like the cutting tool was chattering and leave a rough surface finish.

Even the vibration of the single phase motor is very apparent, hence the loud whine on startup,

  • Yeah well it would be cool just to see the gas engine run it with out working on anything. But I like POWER lol

  • yeah, it would be interesting if it stalls it like the electric motor.

  • that's a great machine. I love vintage equipment especially seeing it put to use rather then scraped or sitting around rusting away.

  • yeah, so many of these get scrapped nowdays, turret lathes became obsolete when NC/CNC came in.

but I still know a number of people who swear by them for barfeed work.

  • Cool! good to see it got home safely. Pretty cool machine that one :D

  • yeah, this one will make a lot of project parts in time to come.

  • cool i need a tiny one for fun making parts etc

  • I've seen tiny benchtop lathes for sale here at electronics and hobby supply stores. they are Chinese and not much good for large bits of steel, but they would work well on aluminum RC car pistons, cylinders etc..

they were going for roughly $500AUD (200 ish USD)

when you've got a couple of hundred to blow go check out Harbor Freight's inventory.

  • maby in the future i will lol i was thinking on getting one and make a small 4 stroke model engine

  • I'm sure you gonna make it run smoothly

  • yeah I got a lot of work to do!

  • very nice. looks like ill have to get those lights to you soon.lol

  • kewlness toy!

  • Very nice looking lathe!

gotta love old professional machinery :)
